p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder has good relationships with children and they form strong emotional bonds with her. This helps to support their well-being successfully.  Children behave well and play happily with their friends. They show they feel safe and secure.  The childminder successfully teaches children to respect and celebrate differences in others. She creates a homely environment where all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, are fully included and valued.  The childminder interacts well with all children and extends their learning. They make good progress in relation to their starting points in learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder is not making full use of self-evaluation to help improve the quality of the provision to the highest standard.  The childminder has improved the assessment process since the previous inspection. However, she does not consistently make use of her observations to more precisely inform children's next steps in learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make better use of self-evaluation to help improve the quality of the provision to the highest standard  continue to build on the use of observation to support the identification of next steps in children's learning even more precisely.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children's activities indoors and in the garden.  The inspector sampled children's learning records and other relevant documentation.  The inspector took account of the views of a parent spoken to at the inspection.  The inspector looked at the suitability checks for the adults living and working in the setting.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. Since the previous inspection, the childminder has notified Ofsted of her assistant. The childminder has also completed relevant checks that help ensure the assistant is suitable to work with children. The childminder and assistant have completed safeguarding training and are fully aware of how to deal with a child protection concern. The childminder ensures her assistant fully understands her role. For example, she monitors and coaches her assistant and helps develop her skills in interacting with children. The childminder is continuing to develop her own practice and monitor children's progress. She makes good use of training to improve her knowledge and children's experiences. For example, she now understands how physical activity helps children learn and concentrate.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder works closely with parents, agencies and other settings to meet children's individual needs and provide continuity in learning. She knows the children well and provides activities that challenge and stimulate them. For example, children build on their good creative skills when using modelling sand. The childminder reinforces children's mathematical skills well, for example, when they count and talk about shapes in the sand. She provides opportunities for children to investigate using their senses. For example, children handle and explore a variety of interesting sensory resources. The childminder builds on children's communication skills competently. For example, she encourages them to talk about what they are doing and share their experiences.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder successfully teaches children about good personal hygiene. For example, children show a good understanding of the need to wash their hands and clean the table before they have a meal. The childminder provides children with plenty of opportunities to be active, such as using swings in the garden and dancing indoors. Children enjoy playing outdoors and develop good physical skills.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress in the skills they need for the move on to school in relation to where they started in learning. They are independent and see to their own personal care needs. Children take on responsibilities, such as getting out bowls at snack time. They show a care and concern for others. For example, they pour a drink for their friends. Children are confident around adults and eagerly join in with activities. They enjoy learning and become absorbed in play with a purpose. Children communicate effectively and listen well to instructions.
