Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is up to date with the different aspects of child protection and the possible risks children may face. She knows what action to take if she has concerns. The childminder ensures she engages in training which is required, and makes use of other opportunities to keep her knowledge updated. She reviews her practice and children's progress, to make sure she meets children's needs. For example, she identified the need to improve her provision for mathematics. She completed training and research and now uses numbers across all the areas of learning. Parents comment that they feel that their children are safe and enjoy their time with the childminder and hold her in the highest regard.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The experienced childminder knows the children she cares for well. She interacts in a positive manner to support and encourage their learning. She uses the information gained from her observations and assessments to plan interesting activities to support children's learning. Overall, children make good progress across all areas of learning. The childminder promotes children's mathematical development from a young age. For example, she helps children recognise different shapes, colours and sizes as they look for buried treasure, while dressed as pirates. The childminder extends children's learning further, talking about different numbers and helping children to match them. The childminder gives children appropriate time to speculate and to solve problems. For example, when they attempt to put on the dressing up clothes, the childminder allows them time to attempt the zips and buttons before offering the support required.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children behave exceptionally well. The childminder is an excellent role model. Children are deeply considerate, kind and polite. They independently initiate their ideas, by selecting what they need from the resources and activities available to them. They actively solve problems and are able to carefully consider risks and challenges without prompting. They excitedly celebrate one another's achievements. The childminder skilfully engages children in conversations about healthy eating and good hygiene habits and routines. Children also learn to value similarities and differences between themselves and others.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points. They are confident and independent. Children are happy, sociable and show a natural curiosity. They develop the skills they need to prepare them for the move to pre-school or school. For example, children learn to put their coats and shoes on for themselves and begin to understand what is expected at quiet times.
