This provision is good
Staff carefully observe and assess children's progress. They plan challenging activities based around children's interests and identified learning priorities. All children make good progress in relation to their starting points. Every child has a special adult that they can go to for comfort and reassurance when needed. Children form strong emotional bonds with their key person. Staff form good partnerships with parents, agencies and other settings. They work successfully together to meet children's welfare and learning needs well. The strong leadership team consistently and successfully evaluates and reviews staff practice and the use of the premises. It makes positive changes that benefit children, such as developing the sleep area into a cosier space for younger children. The leadership and management team uses thorough and incisive recruitment procedures to help ensure staff are trustworthy and suitable to work with children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Staff have not fully developed opportunities for children to develop a greater awareness and respect for other languages and cultures represented in the setting. Occasionally, small group activities are not organised in the most effective way to enable staff to involve all children fully in the learning experience.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's activities indoors and in the outdoor area. The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to at the inspection. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the manager. The inspector sampled children's learning records and other relevant documentation, including the provider's self-evaluation form. The inspector held meetings with the leadership team and other members of staff.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The leadership team ensures that all staff have up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding procedures. It makes good use of evaluation and monitoring systems to identify and address any emerging gaps in teaching and children's learning. For example, staff now provide more exciting and innovative resources that help improve the early writing skills of boys who were previously less engaged in writing activities. The leadership team effectively coaches and develops the professional skills of all staff. Children benefit from staff's increasing knowledge and skills. For example, recent training has enabled staff to further improve number activities building on children's strong mathematical skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff know children well and interact skilfully with them to extend their learning. They use questions that encourage children to think about what they are doing and express their ideas. For example, when planting tomato plants, staff asked older children about what plants need to grow. Staff thoughtfully provide activities that interest and motivate children. For example, at the inspection they used younger children's favourite toy vehicles to build on their physical skills. They encouraged children to climb up the steps to get a car and then roll it down a ramp. Staff successfully enhance all children's communication skills. For example, they introduce new words with younger children and praise them when they repeat them back.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Staff create a welcoming, caring and friendly environment. They support all children well, including those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities and those learning English as an additional language. Children show a strong sense of belonging. Staff are good role models and teach children the importance of being kind to others. Children show a care and concern for others. For example, children returned a friend's special toy to them when they found it outside. Young children got excited when their friends arrived. Staff actively extend children's awareness of how to stay safe and in good health. They provide plenty of opportunities for children to be active and exercise in the fresh air.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop well in the skills they need to be ready for school. They have good social skills and behave well. Children understand what acceptable behaviour is. They are independent and manage their own needs well. For example, they prepare snacks and pour drinks. Children are confident speakers who engage easily in conversation with adults. They are keen to join in and learn new skills. Children show good imagination, for example, when taking part in shop role-play activities.
