Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC432404 1 SC432404 Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The children’s home provides a short-breaks service for up to two children who have disabilities, complex individual needs and fragile health. This service is managed by an NHS foundation trust.

p.1

This monitoring visit

At the previous inspection on 21 March 2017, this home was judged to have declined in effectiveness. A compliance notice was issued because of the home’s failure to comply with the protection of children standard. The purpose of this visit was to assess whether the requirements of the compliance notice have been met.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The acting manager and staff are now clear about which safeguarding and child protection procedures to follow. Staff demonstrate a good understanding of the home’s and the organisation’s safeguarding procedures, which are now in line with ‘Working together to safeguard children’, 2015.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The senior manager has reviewed the home’s medication procedures with the staff team to safeguard against medication errors. The system is now improved. The clinical lead has carried out further training on medication administration and is confident that staff are equipped with the full information required to carry out their roles effectively. The acting manager, alongside qualified nursing staff, now audits medication to ensure that she has oversight of the safe administration of medication. This audit is being developed to ensure that it covers all areas of medication administration.

p.1

This monitoring visit

A new system is in place to supervise all staff effectively. This system is in its early stages of implementation and the impact is yet to be measured.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The senior manager and acting manager have made progress against the requirement and actions set out in the compliance notice. Therefore, the compliance notice is now met. To support further improvements, a meeting has been arranged on 16 May 2017 involving Ofsted inspectors, the responsible individual and the Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC432404 2 senior manager.
