This provision is good
The childminder has improved links with parents. She talks to them about what children can do and what they find more difficult. She offers parents advice and she shares resources with them, so they are confident to continue teaching their children at home. Children enjoy spending time with the childminder. She is kind and fully meets their care needs. The childminder encourages children to speak as much as possible. She offers them opportunities to make new friends and they really enjoy socialising with other children. The childminder assesses children's development accurately from the very start. She has developed systems to record observations and assessments. The childminder closely tracks children's progress to identify areas she feels are weaker. She works on these with children to help them catch up. The childminder continues to look for fresh and interesting ways to teach children new

skills. She seeks fun ideas and learns from other people that work with children. She adapts activities to meet the needs of children she works with. Children fully engage in play, they are confident to try activities and make good progress in their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the best use of the outdoor area for those children who prefer to learn outside to use their imaginations. The childminder does not encourage children to become familiar with number names.

Inspection activities
The inspector talked to the childminder about how she reflects on her practice and how she involves parents and children in the process. The inspector sampled learning documents and talked to the childminder about progress children are making. The inspector observed the childminder interacting with children and discussed the relationships children have built with the childminder and how she manages their behaviour. The inspector read the childminder's safeguarding policies and talked to her about the procedures she follows to keep children safe. The inspector looked at the childminder's certificates, discussed training and how any learning has helped her to improve teaching.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder makes the most of opportunities to work with staff at other settings children attend. They discuss a shared approach to progressing children's development, which helps children to learn. The childminder reflects on the particular needs of children and how she can best teach them. For example, she reorganised the environment so that children become more familiar with print. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder shares her safeguarding policies with parents. She is fully aware of the procedures to follow to keep children safe. The childminder is eager to continue to improve her practice. For instance, since the last inspection she has changed the way she uses music and song with children. Children do not hear music all the time now, and when they do they are much more interested in singing along.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides opportunities for children to learn in inventive ways. For instance, children engaged in making marks as they drove trucks across large sheets of paper. The childminder showed children how to apply pressure to make patterns in different colours. Children really enjoy the activity. They build on their learning using pens to practise early writing skills. The childminder interacts well with children and they engage in activities for prolonged lengths of time. For example, children transported oatmeal with small tools and excitedly manipulated pieces between their fingers, feeling the texture.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder regularly updates her knowledge to develop her good practice. For example, she recently attended training to understand different types of behaviour. She uses simple techniques to support children. Children are well behaved and express their feelings appropriately. The childminder provides good-quality resources that are easily accessible for children. Children concentrate and engage in activities happily. The childminder helps children understand how to limit the spread of germs in different ways. For example, she talks to them about how to wash their hands to help them stay healthy.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn to put on their clothes and shoes from an early age and to use cutlery to feed themselves. Children learn some mathematical skills, such as ordering containers by size. They are eager to make friendships and respond well to new challenges. Children adapt well to changes in their daily routines. Children learn a good range of skills that prepares them well for future learning and the move to school when the time comes.
