This provision is good
The quality of the childminder's teaching is good. She uses her knowledge and expertise well to support children to make good progress in their learning. The childminder shows a commitment to working in partnership with local schools and other settings children attend. She demonstrates a proactive approach to sharing information and working together to support children's learning. The childminder has a sensitive and caring manner. She offers children plenty of attention, praise and encouragement. Children demonstrate that they feel valued and develop high levels of self-esteem, supporting their emotional well-being effectively. The childminder places strong emphasis on supporting children's good health. Effective hygiene procedures are in place and children have daily access to the outdoor area. Good quality information is gathered from parents when children first start attending the childminder's setting. This helps to provide continuity in children's physical,

emotional and learning and developmental needs.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The monitoring of children's progress is not yet rigorous enough to provide the childminder with precise information, in order to ensure any possible gaps in learning are identified even more swiftly. The childminder has not yet used highly focused professional development opportunities to help develop her teaching skills to the highest level.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to safeguard children and knows who to contact should she have any concerns about their welfare. She ensures that all doors and stair gates in the home and garden area are locked at all times when children are present. The childminder is committed to improving the quality of her provision. She evaluates the effectiveness of aspects of her practice with her co-childminder and has identified some ways she can improve. The views of parents and children support this process further. A good overview is maintained of activities and experiences offered to children, in order to ensure these reflect their interests and stage of development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is a well-qualified practitioner who supports children's learning well. She skilfully extends their communication skills during activities. For example, during a baking task, the childminder introduces words, such as squash, to help children understand how the butter and sugar are mixed together. Mathematical skills are supported equally well. The childminder encourages children to count and incorporates language, such as half, when measuring ingredients. The childminder carries out ongoing observations of children as they play. She uses this information well to identify their next steps in learning and plans challenging activities to help them make good progress. This information is shared with parents on a regular basis, which keeps them up to date with their children's achievements and helps them to recognise where they can support their child further at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder works well with her co-childminder to provide a vibrant, stimulating environment for children. Toys and equipment are well organised and enable children to make independent choices and show confidence in directing their own play. High levels of care are provided by the childminder. This helps children to develop strong relationships with her and they are highly motivated to learn. Children behave very well within the home environment. They receive gentle reminders and explanations of appropriate expectations and boundaries, both indoors and outdoors. This helps children to understand why simple rules are in place and what they are intended to achieve.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning. They maintain concentration during activities and take turns using equipment. This helps them to develop the key skills required for starting school. Children develop an interest in early literacy. They confidently use pencils and crayons to draw and watch carefully to see how the initial letter of their name is formed.
