Effectiveness of the leadership and management Requires improvement Quality of teaching, learning and assessment Requires improvement Personal development, behaviour and welfare Requires improvement Outcomes for children Requires improvement
p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder does not maintain an accurate daily record of children's attendance. The childminder does not hold a relevant paediatric first-aid certificate. The childminder has not established effective links with other early years settings that children attend. The childminder does not have a written procedure in place to deal with any concerns or complaints from parents and/or carers. This is a breach of Childcare Register requirements.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Children are happy and eager to play and learn. They build strong relationships with the kind and caring childminder. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles. Children are provided with nutritious food and have plenty of opportunities for play and exercise outside. The childminder acts as a good role model. She helps children develop suitable social skills. Children learn to behave well and share toys and resources. Sound partnerships with parents have been established. The childminder shares regular information with parents about their child's day.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children during the inspection. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation and discussed the childminder's policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder does not consistently record the times children arrive or leave each day. However, there is little impact on children's well-being because she has no more than three children present at any time. This means that she is able to informally monitor children's attendance and establish who is on the premises in the event of an emergency evacuation. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a sound understanding of the procedures to follow if she has any child protection concerns. The childminder has sound systems in place to observe children and assess their level of development. This means she is able to identify and address any gaps in learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
Overall, the quality of teaching adequately supports children in their learning and development. However, the childminder has not established links with other settings children attend. She cannot be sure that her provision complements the care and learning experiences children have elsewhere. The childminder is well qualified and has a sound understanding of how children learn through play. She evaluates the service she provides and attends further training to help develop her practice. The childminder talks to children consistently to enhance their speaking and listening skills. She introduces simple mathematical concepts as children play. For example, when children pretend to feed dolls, she asks children how many plates they have and how many more they need.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder does not hold the required paediatric first-aid qualification. However, she does hold a basic first-aid certificate and has attended full training in the past. She demonstrates a sound knowledge of how to respond to injuries and accidents. Consequently, the impact on children's welfare is minimal. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles. Children are provided with nutritious food and have plenty of opportunities for play and exercise outside. The childminder provides plenty of praise and encouragement. This helps to build children's self-esteem. As a result, children are keen to persevere and succeed during tasks.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
The childminder does not always work closely enough with other settings children attend to plan effectively for children's ongoing learning. Consequently, children do not yet make good progress in their learning and development. Children are beginning to recognise numbers and count. They learn new words and confidently engage in conversations. Children gain the basic skills to help prepare them for the next stage of their learning and school.
