This provision is good
The childminder demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement. She identifies her strengths and some areas for improvement to support good outcomes for children. Children have established strong bonds and attachments with the childminder, which helps to support their emotional well-being. Children behave well. Overall, partnerships with parents are effective. The childminder ensures that parents are involved in their children's care and learning. This helps to ensure continuity and children's good progress. The childminder uses her observations of children's play to help her plan a range of activities that encourages them to achieve the next steps in their development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not involve parents enough in the evaluation of her provision in order to ensure that any aspects that they feel could be improved are addressed swiftly. Children are not always given sufficient time to become fully absorbed in activities of their own choosing and so are not always fully encouraged to develop high levels of concentration and engagement.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed all areas of the childminder's home accessed by children and observed play and learning opportunities. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at and discussed a range of records, policies and procedures with the childminder, including evidence of qualifications and the suitability of all adults living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written testimonials obtained by the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is fully aware of how to protect children from harm and neglect. She knows who to contact if she has any concerns or issues. The childminder carries out regular risk assessments within the home and on outings. These help her to minimise risk, further helping to keep children safe. Children's progress is effectively monitored by the well-qualified childminder. Parents have continuous access to information about children's learning and comment that they are very happy with the care provided to their children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Overall, teaching is good. The childminder knows how children learn through play. Children access a wide range of age-appropriate resources and engage in a selection of interesting learning experiences. For example, they thoroughly enjoy small-world activities and explore and investigate different materials. The childminder uses clear and simple speech to support children who are learning to talk. She offers commentary when they play, helping them to hear new words. Children experience the wider community. They visit local places of interest and learn about different people and celebrations around the world. Children have a strong sense of belonging. They have a designated space for their coats and are familiar with daily routines. Children’s independence is supported well.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder creates a welcoming environment and organises space, resources and care routines to promote children's independence. She consistently encourages good manners and praises children frequently. Children join in the activities and develop a strong attachment to the childminder. They respond well to the calm atmosphere she creates. They settle quickly and listen when the childminder explains the simple boundaries she has in place. The childminder gathers information about children’s health and care needs when they enrol and finds out about their family life. Children learn about the importance of washing their hands before eating.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning in relation to their different starting points. They become confident communicators and clearly express their wishes and needs. Children are well prepared for their move on to nursery or school.
