This provision is good
Children form good, warm relationships with the childminder and one another. They enjoy their time in the childminder's home. Children's mathematical development is supported well. The childminder uses many opportunities to help children use numbers, size, shape and measure during daily activities. Children make independent choices in their play and demonstrate a strong sense of belonging. Children's health is promoted well. For example, the childminder provides a good range of well balanced and healthy meals and snacks for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to fully involve parents in their child's learning. Sometimes, the childminder is not quick enough to recognise when younger children would benefit from being involved in activities exploring media and materials. The childminder does not make the most of opportunities for further professional development in order to continually improve the quality of teaching.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of activities and the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and children during the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the qualifications held by the childminder and evidence of the suitability of those living on the premises. The inspector took account of parents' written comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the procedures she must follow should she have any concerns about a child in her care. She keeps her knowledge updated by completing regular child protection training. The childminder supervises children closely and completes good risk assessments in order to keep children safe. She has maintained a paediatric first-aid qualification and is confident to deal with minor accidents. The childminder seeks the views of parents and children regularly. She takes on board their views in order to improve the outcomes for children. The childminder tracks children's progress well. She plans activities to narrow any gaps in children's learning and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The well-qualified childminder makes good use of her observations and assessments. She plans activities building on what children enjoy and what their interests are. For example, children show an interest in caterpillars. The childminder provides creative activities for children to make marks and explore and experiment with colour. The childminder skilfully asks a good range of questions with older children. They talk about the changes that occur when they mix different colours together. Children continue to explore and show good levels of concentration. Younger children eventually become deeply involved in the activity. They use paint brushes and their fingers to make marks on the paper.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and settled. Their self-esteem and behaviour is good. The childminder praises children for their good behaviour and achievements. This helps children try harder and have another a go in their chosen activities. The childminder supports children's healthy lifestyles effectively. They spend time in the garden enjoying the fresh air while they exercise. They collect the eggs from the hens and know to wash their hands afterwards to stop germs from spreading. Children have the opportunity to interact with children of their own age. For example, the childminder takes children to a variety of local groups in the community. The childminder helps children learn to accept other's similarities and differences through positive experiences and activities.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They develop good skills for their future learning and are well prepared to move on to school. They are motivated in their play and have a positive attitude to their learning. Children enjoy books from an early age. This supports their literacy skills. They show good levels of independence, such as finding their own coats and shoes and attempt to put them on by themselves.
