This provision is good
The childminder carefully monitors children's progress. She takes account of children's individual interests and personalities to help them achieve and to assess where support is needed. The childminder works in partnership with parents and staff in other settings children attend. For example, she informs parents frequently about how they can support children's learning at home. Children make good progress. The childminder works closely with other professionals to help those children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities to catch up and make progress from their individual starting points. The childminder promotes children's understanding of healthy lifestyles. For example, she provides them with opportunities to grow fruits and vegetables which they then eat. The childminder works with an assistant, whom she manages well to help ensure children's needs are met. For example, she supports her assistant to develop the

experience and knowledge needed to gain an early years qualification.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently make the most of opportunities to extend children's ideas and thoughts while they play. The childminder misses opportunities to extend children's early reading and writing skills further, particularly while playing outside.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and outdoors. The inspector talked with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's assessment records. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and her suitability checks. The inspector held discussions with the childminder in relation to observations of the children's play, learning and progress.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a comprehensive knowledge of the signs that may cause concern about a child's welfare and the procedures to follow in the event of any concern. She works closely with her assistant and together they evaluate the provision and consider how it meets children's needs. For example, the childminder is currently developing activities and resources to help children learn how to cope with their emotions. The childminder is keen to extend her practice. For example, she is a member of a childminder network and meets up regularly with other childminders. This helps her to learn from others. The childminder makes effective use of online resources to help her build on her current knowledge and skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children independently lead their experiences. The childminder allows them freedom to experiment and try out ideas. For example, she observes as children test out what happens to different objects when they push them up the slide. The childminder has created an environment in which children are eager to play and learn; they choose resources and initiate play. For example, children engage deeply in imaginative play after finding train tickets and go on an imaginative journey to their favourite places. Children learn about differences that exist between people. For example, they notice that toy figures in their play have different facial features and realise that people speak different languages around the world.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle quickly into the setting and form solid relationships with the childminder, her assistant and the other children. This helps to support their emotional well-being. Children show empathy and help each other, for example, they help their friends up if they fall over. Children behave well. The childminder prepares children well for when they move on to other settings, such as school. For example, she helps them to develop independence and introduces them to busier environments.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop good early mathematical skills. For example, they make and count the number of holes before planting seeds in the childminder's garden. Children are confident. They freely make requests and choose games to play. Children enjoy physical activities and show good physical skills, such as hitting a ball with a bat. They know how to take turns and have good social skills. Children are ready for the next stage in their education and the eventual move to school.
