The childminder works collaboratively with local primary schools that children in her care attend. She uses the information gathered, to plan specific activities that help to prepare children in readiness for school. The childminder has developed strong relationships with the children that she cares for. She is aware of children’s likes, dislikes and capabilities which ensures that she plans activities which meet children’s individual needs well. Children's behaviour is well managed. There are clear rules and boundaries in place. Children are respectful of the childminder and each other. This helps to create a positive environment, where children feel safe and secure. The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of the signs and symptoms of abuse. She is clear on how to report concerns that she may have about children in

The inspector observed children during play and learning activities. The inspector took account of the views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly risk assesses her home and equipment which helps to create a safe environment for children. The childminder is well qualified. She has participated in a wide range of training opportunities which helps to ensure that she has a good knowledge and understanding of the statutory framework for the early year’s foundation stage. The childminder has clear plans for improvement in place. However, there is room to make better use of the views of children and parents when evaluating her practice. Partnership with parents is good. Parents are complimentary about the care and education that the childminder offers. However, there is room to provide additional opportunities to involve parents in their children’s learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans a wide range of stimulating activities. Activities are well thought out and exciting. For example, children delight in playing in the porridge which follows on from the story book that the childminder has read to the children, about Goldilocks and the three bears. This encourages children to develop an enthusiastic approach towards their learning. Children enjoy taking part in a wide range of mark making opportunities. This supports their early writing skills. Young children enjoy solving simple problems, for example, how to open and close bolts on the sensory board. Children have regular opportunities to learn about the wider world and the childminder supports children’s mathematical development well. For example, she encourages counting during routine tasks such as climbing the stairs to go to the bathroom.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children receive regular opportunities for fresh air and exercise. The childminder encourages children to lead healthy lifestyles. She provides children with nutritious snacks and meals and encourages good hygiene practices, such as regular handwashing. The childminder provides a welcoming and stimulating environment which helps children to feel secure in her home. Children are encouraged to manage their own personal needs which helps to develop their independence skills. There is a clear settling in procedure when children first join the childminder’s care. This helps children to feel emotionally secure and settle in quickly.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder has good systems for the observation and assessment of children. There is clear planning in place which supports the effective delivery of the educational programme for young children. The childminder regularly monitors the progress that children are making. She recognises when children are at risk of falling behind and has developed strong links with other professionals. This helps to ensure that she can readily seek support for children who need it. The quality of teaching is good and the childminder provides challenging activities which help children to acquire the key skills they need in readiness for school. All children are making at least typical progress and some children are working beyond the level of development expected for their age. Consequently, outcomes for children are good.
