and planning effectively in order to continue to improve her teaching skills and children's learning experiences. The childminder monitors children's progress thoroughly and plans focused activities that build on their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not yet consistently enhance some play to help to fully promote the learning of children who enjoy playing and learning outside. On occasions, the childminder does not consistently encourage children's exploratory skills, to help children achieve higher levels of progress.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed an evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder uses her knowledge and good practice to protect children and keep them safe in a range of situations. She knows what to do if she has a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder checks that her home and other venues she visits with the children are safe for them to use. She supervises children vigilantly. The childminder maintains her professional development and keeps up to date with current practice, to help provide good quality teaching and learning for children. She has good relationships with other early years providers. She shares information about children's development and this helps to provide continuity in their care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes children's achievements as they play and measures their progress effectively. She reviews each child's progress regularly and shares this information with parents. She guides parents in ways to support their children's learning at home to help further children's progress. The childminder promotes a shared approach to children's learning through her communication with parents. Children enjoy playing percussion instruments and singing along with action songs. The childminder encourages them to do this, using children's favourite songs. She encourages less confident children to join in and recognises when children want to move to a new activity. She relates parts of a story to children's own experiences, to capture their interest even more. They look at the pictures intently and enjoy the story.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children form close bonds with the childminder. They sit happily on her lap to look at books and sing songs. The childminder praises children when they are kind and they gain good self-esteem and caring ways. For example, children help to find other children's dummies when they are tired. Children form close friendships. They play happily together and the childminder helps them to understand that they need to wait patiently for their turn to play with a toy. Children enjoy healthy meals and snacks and drink water throughout the day. The childminder teaches children to move around the garden safely. They hold on to her hand, or a low wall when using steps.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children listen and respond well to instructions. They gain independence, for example, when they put on their own Wellington boots to go outside or when they get their nappies from their bags. Children learn to feed themselves and communicate their needs to the childminder. They develop good language skills. Young children are beginning to use more than one word at a time and they repeat words the childminder encourages them to say. Children gain the skills they need for the next stages in their learning.
