She recognises the signs that suggest a child may be suffering from harm and knows who to contact should she have concerns. The childminder effectively minimises potential risks to children and meets their specific needs very well. She exchanges information with health professionals and parents to develop specific teaching strategies. This helps her to support children well to make good progress from their starting points. The childminder knows children well. She has a clear understanding of children's stages of development and liaises with parents when a child first starts in her care to find out what they know and can do. Overall, the childminder makes accurate observations and precise assessments of children's progress, which helps her to monitor and address any gaps in their learning promptly. Through daily discussions, she keeps parents informed about what children have done while in her care. Parents comment that they are very fortunate to have the childminder in their lives as she provides children with an excellent start in life. The childminder plans enjoyable learning experiences and interacts well to support children's learning. For example, when children show an interest in different animals, the childminder encourages them to name the animals, making comparisons, discussing differences and skilfully introducing counting. The childminder supports children's early

literacy skills effectively. For example, she encourages children to read books and to act out favourite stories.

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children develop a strong attachment to the childminder. They respond well to the calm atmosphere she creates. Children settle quickly and listen when the childminder explains the simple boundaries she has in place. The childminder encourages children to make choices and respects their decisions. For example, children choose a seat and persevere with independently fastening the straps. Children use very good manners without being prompted. For example, they thank the childminder for her help. Children freely choose where to play, using different areas of her home. The childminder ensures that children have opportunities for fresh air through accessing local parks and places of interest.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children develop good skills that prepare them well for the next stage in their learning, including school. Children are very independent and prefer to try and work things out themselves before asking for help. They communicate their wants and needs and show an enthusiasm for learning.
