This provision is good
The childminder has strong relationships with parents and effective systems in place for sharing information on the children's learning and development. Children benefit from the individual attention they receive from the caring and nurturing childminder and develop close relationships with her. They are well settled and confident. The childminder effectively uses opportunities to promote children's communication and language, mathematical and literacy skills. This helps them to acquire the key skills ready for their next stage in learning. Children's personal, emotional and social development are a high priority for the childminder. She has high expectations and provides a good role model. The children are polite and well behaved.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not evaluate her practice sharply enough, such as to help her identify the main targets that will have the most impact on children's learning. The childminder does not make full use her professional development opportunities, in particular, to improve the quality of her teaching even further. Occasionally, the childminder plans activities that do not encourage children to use their own ideas, creativity or thinking skills.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including children's records and a range of policies and procedures. The inspector took account of parents written comments, including a parent questionnaire.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly updates her knowledge and skills and is clear about what she should do if she has a concern about a child in her care. She seeks views from parents and other professionals, which helps her to evaluate her provision. The childminder provides a broad range of activities to meet the needs and interests of the children. She monitors children's progress effectively to identify and address any gaps in learning quickly. The childminder shares information with parents, such as through extensive diaries and discussions. She provides consistent care and supports parents with their children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children very well and uses this information to accurately assess children's achievements and next steps in learning. She plans activities that are based on what children can already do and what they are learning next. The childminder uses a range of teaching strategies to help children's language development. She uses clear language to repeat their words and phrases, extends sentences and introduces new words. The childminder effectively teaches skills in small steps, encouraging children to successfully master a task. For example, she reminds children to push hard when using the rolling pin. The childminder provides resources and activities to help children learn about their own and other people's cultures.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder ensures that children have daily opportunities for physical exercise and fresh air, such as in her garden and at nearby parks. The childminder effectively helps children to understand how to keep themselves safe and healthy. For example, she teaches them how to climb the stairs safely. The childminder uses a calm, gentle approach, giving children consistent praise and encouragement. She is skilled in encouraging and supporting children to be independent.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. Children count confidently and know their shapes and colours. They enjoy stories and talk enthusiastically about the pictures and characters. They are well prepared for the next stage of their learning and school.
