Discussions were held about her practice and how well children learn and develop.  The inspector examined procedures for safeguarding.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder shows enthusiasm in her role. She keeps up to date with early years requirements. For example, she reads essential documents. The childminder reflects on her practice and takes effective steps to improve her provision. For example, since the previous inspection she has improved opportunities for children to develop their language skills, and the range of books available. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of child protection issues. Thorough risk assessments help to ensure children are safe in the setting and on outings. The childminder knows exactly what to do should she have concerns about a child's welfare. Parents are kept informed of their children's progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder makes careful observations to assess the skills of each child. She provides interesting activities that are well suited to the age and needs of the children. The childminder successfully develops children's communication and language in all activities. There are also good opportunities for children to use their numeracy skills. For example, they count animals in the stories and the number of cups in the kitchen role-play area. Outdoor learning provides rich opportunities to develop children's physical skills and their understanding of the natural world. For example, children sow vegetable seeds.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The setting is a caring, warm and stimulating environment. The childminder is a good role model for the children and provides comfort, encouragement and praise. Children are content, happy and secure in the childminder's care. They participate fully in activities, showing much enthusiasm and concentration. Children are taught good manners and are learning to share and take turns. Good health and hygiene routines are established, for example, for nappy changing and hand washing. Children enjoy snacks of fresh fruit and drink water after exercise.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points. They make strong gains in developing their communication and language skills. For example, babies respond to familiar sounds and two-year-old children follow instructions well and listen attentively to stories. Children apply mathematical skills confidently in activities and play. For instance, they sort objects into groups and count items. Children make good progress in their physical development. For example, babies crawl and shuffle to explore things of interest. Two-year-old children ride different toy vehicles with control and coordination. Children acquire a good understanding of different people and places. They are well prepared for the next stage of their learning.
