p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has secure knowledge of child protection issues and the procedures to follow if she has concerns about any of the children in her care. She is up to date with current legislation. The childminder undertakes thorough risk assessments to effectively reduce hazards to children. These include all areas of her home and on outings. The childminder meets regularly with other childminders and early years professionals, in order to share good practice, ideas and resources. She has made effective improvements since the last inspection. For example, children now have plenty of opportunities to explore a wide range of materials, such as sand, water and paint.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses her accurate assessments to help children achieve what they need to learn next. She follows children's interests well and encourages them to explore and investigate. The childminder skilfully stimulates their speaking and listening skills. For example, she introduces new action words as young children excitedly roll and throw different balls and watch their movements. Children enjoy singing songs and action rhymes as part of their daily routine. The childminder spends plenty of time playing with children to encourage their understanding. For example, as children become interested in the lift in their toy garage, she encourages them to observe how the lift works.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy and form close bonds with the childminder. They quickly settle when they arrive in the morning. The childminder is very attentive to children's individual needs and care routines. She treats them with kindness and respect and praises positive attitudes. Children respond very well and their behaviour is good. They follow the childminder's simple boundaries and enjoy assisting with daily tasks, such as tidying away their toys. Children have many opportunities to develop their physical skills and spend time outdoors. These include visits to parks and outings in the local area. The childminder helps children to follow hygiene routines and to cope well in social situations.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. They develop skills across all areas of learning which help to prepare them well for their next stage of development and eventual move to school. Children concentrate well in their play and learn new words quickly. They have good listening skills and enjoy sharing story books with the childminder, for example, about their favourite toy trains. From a young age, children successfully develop their physical skills and interest in technology, for example, when exploring toys with switches and moving parts. Children enjoy making marks with chalks and using brushes to paint. Older children know some letters and the sounds they represent, and use these when writing.
