This provision is good
The childminder completes regular observations on children and assesses their development well. She uses this information successfully to identify any gaps in children's learning and implement plans effectively to support them to make good progress. The childminder develops good teaching skills and extends children's learning well. For example, she has provided a water wall with guttering and plastic bottles to help children understand how water flows and use a variety of resources to explore water. Child make independent choices from a wide variety of resources and play materials. They are engaged, able to concentrate for long periods and learn new skills during play. The childminder places a strong focus on helping children feel safe and secure. Children have positive relationships with the childminder and each other. Children develop good skills that prepare them well for their future learning. For

example, they follow simple instructions and complete routine tasks, such as finding and putting on their shoes independently.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
During some activities, the childminder misses opportunities to allow children to follow their own interests and make independent choices. The childminder does not always use self-evaluation as well as she could, to identify gaps in her knowledge, to help raise standards even further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and the children and assessed the impact this has on the children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children during the inspection. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector asked the childminder questions relating to children's development and her understanding of the safeguarding requirements. The inspector viewed the areas of the home used by the children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder works effectively with other professionals to sharpen her teaching skills. For example, she works with other childminders to share ideas for activities to complete with children. She has effective partnerships with other settings. For instance, she shares information with the pre-schools children attend. This helps to ensure continuity of care and learning for children. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder keeps them up to date about the children's ongoing care and the progress they make. The childminder seeks the views of parents and children to help her develop her practice and make ongoing improvements to her setting. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is aware of the procedure to follow if she has a concern about a child's welfare. She understands how to identify any children who may be at risk of harm.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder understands how children learn. She provides a good range of activities to help them make further progress. For example, she uses every opportunity to teach children to count and use numbers as they play. The childminder supports children's communication and language well. For example, she repeats words and uses simple sentences to help them develop their understanding and speech. All children make good progress, including those who learn English as an additional language. The childminder supports children's understanding of the differences and similarities between themselves and others well. For example, she makes positive use of books about other cultures and provides children with resources to help them learn about festivals and celebrations.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Effective settling-in procedures allow the childminder to meet the needs of all children. Children are very happy and secure, and explore the well-organised and homely environment with confidence. Children successfully learn how to lead a healthy lifestyle. They enjoy nutritious meals and snacks, and follow high standards of hygiene. For, example they learn the importance of washing their hands after activities. Children benefit from daily fresh air and physical exercise. For instance, they have regular visits to the park, woodland, and play in the childminder's garden. The childminder supports children well emotionally. Behaviour is very good and the childminder encourages children to show empathy towards others. She sensitively helps children to be respectful to one another and gives them lots of praise, helping to develop their self-esteem well.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children gain a good range of skills to help them when they move on to school. They learn well about the routines and expectations for good behaviour. Children follow simple instructions and keenly engage in a wide range of interesting experiences.
