This provision is outstanding

 The childminder skilfully supports children's emotional well-being. She takes time to get to know the children, for example, through home visits, and children form very strong attachments. Children feel very safe; for instance, they are cuddled close and reassured when unfamiliar adults visit the setting. The childminder is extremely sensitive to children's needs and shows them great respect.  There are exemplary partnerships at all levels. The childminder works very closely with parents to ensure she has exceptional knowledge of children's developmental starting points and care needs. There is highly effective sharing of information with agencies to safeguard children.  Insightful observations and extremely accurate assessments enable the childminder to provide a stimulating range of experiences that entices children's curiosity for learning. The childminder monitors children's learning highly effectively and acts swiftly to reduce

any gaps in learning. Children make very rapid progress from their starting points.  The childminder uses her training, research and networking highly effectively to improve practice. For example, she has superb knowledge of how young children learn through her training on brain development. She uses this information expertly, for instance, to provide children with plenty of time to investigate sensory materials and to manage their behaviour.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children as they played and discussed their learning.  The inspector discussed the childminder's understanding of the early years foundation stage requirements.  The inspector sampled documentation, including the childminder's self-evaluation, children's assessment records and the setting's policies and procedures.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent knowledge of child protection issues and understands her responsibilities to report any concerns. She carries out meticulous risk assessments and supervises children exceptionally well to keep them safe and secure. Improvements since the last inspection have ensured the service provided is outstanding. The childminder completes highly reflective evaluations of the provision, making accurate action plans to improve outcomes for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

Children show high levels of fascination, for example, as they explore the wooden musical instruments. Babies persist in tasks, such as reaching for instruments and passing them from hand to hand, as they explore different movements, concentrating well on their chosen activity. The childminder skilfully interacts with children to support their learning. For example, highly consistent commentaries and use of repetitive language fully support young children's communication and language skills. The childminder gives children time to process information and think about their responses. Children follow instructions accurately, for example, to crouch down to see the cat 'under' the table. The childminder recognises that she misses some opportunities to recite numbers and model counting, to support children's mathematical development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children thrive in an exceptionally well-organised environment where the childminder meets their care needs exceedingly well. Children have excellent choice from an extensive range of resources, which helps support their independence highly effectively. The experienced childminder skilfully uses her knowledge and training to support children's understanding of behavioural expectations. She works very closely with parents, providing excellent advice to encourage consistent practices, for example, to support young children's frustrations.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children make rapid progress and gain excellent skills that prepare them exceptionally well for their future learning and eventual move to school. Babies show great curiosity and become extremely confident explorers, for example, investigating sensory baskets. Children engage well in new experiences, such as exploring the rainbow rice. They develop superb small-muscle skills, selecting and using tools, such as scoops, purposely. Children show a keen interest in how things work, for example, how the playhouse door opens and shuts, and follow simple instructions well to keep themselves safe.
