This provision is good
The childminder offers a welcoming, well-organised home environment for children. For instance, they easily choose from a good variety of toys and play materials that are suitable for their age and needs. Children have warm, close relationships with the childminder and are happy and settled in her care. She is calm, kind and patient and meets children's individual needs well. The childminder uses her good understanding of children's interests and needs to provide a wide variety of activities that they enjoy. Children make good progress in their development from their starting points. Parents are welcomed into the setting and kept well informed. For instance, the childminder provides daily updates and encourages parents to share information from home. The childminder reflects on her practice and is motivated to continually improve. For instance, she regularly reviews resources to offer children new challenges.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not work closely enough with the other early years settings that children attend, to help support children's learning consistently. Opportunities for children to develop their understanding of different people and communities and the diverse world are not fully extended.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children taking part in activities with the childminder indoors and in the garden. The inspector had discussions with the childminder about her practice and children's learning and development. The inspector sampled documents, including children's learning records. The inspector looked around the areas of the childminder's home used by children. The inspector read comments and letters from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to recognise and report any child protection concerns. She keeps her knowledge of safeguarding matters and teaching up to date, for instance, through online resources and contact with the local authority early years team. The childminder is well organised and keeps thorough records. She supervises children vigilantly and makes daily checks of the premises to help ensure they can play safely. The childminder monitors children's progress and the learning programme closely to help her quickly identify any gaps.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes children regularly and knows them well. She responds effectively to their interests and extends activities, such as suggesting adding dressing up to an imaginative game. She encourages children to do things for themselves and gives them time to try out their ideas. For example, children learn to use the hose pipe themselves and have great fun filling the water tray and making pools in other places. The childminder sets challenges for children and encourages them to solve simple problems, such as working out how many piglets there are altogether in the farm set. She supports children's communication and language skills well, for instance, as she engages children in long, sociable conversations and introduces new words.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a good role model for children, and offers children gentle reassurance and praise. Children are well behaved and play happily together, showing concern for their friends. The childminder skilfully helps children to manage their feelings, for instance, when they find it hard to wait for their turn. She makes tasks, such as tidying up, enjoyable, and children are eager to join in. Children learn how to keep themselves safe, for instance, when they remember why they need to pick the toys up from the floor. They learn simple good hygiene practices, such as why they need to wash their hands before they eat. Children play outside every day. They have useful opportunities to practise their physical skills, such as peeling or cutting up their fruit at snack time.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children quickly grow in confidence and gain independence skills. They make assured choices and decisions about their day, such as what game they want to play or whether to go outside. Children count competently and are interested in stories and books. They develop good physical skills and learn to form the letters of their name. Children are confident communicators with strong social skills. They are well prepared for their future learning and for the move to school.
