This provision is good

 Children are independent, confident and have good social skills. They play happily with their friends and readily share resources. They are kind and caring to others.  The childminder consistently observes and assesses children's progress. She provides a range of challenging and stimulating activities that help extend children. Children make good progress in relation to their starting points in learning.  Children are confident speakers who eagerly hold conversations with adults and their friends. The childminder effectively builds on their strong language skills. For example, she asks children questions that encourage them to describe what they are doing and share their experiences.  The childminder continuously and effectively reviews her practice and makes improvements that benefit children. For example, she is in the process of reorganising the indoor environment and storage of resources and is providing children with greater

opportunities to choose resources and initiate play independently.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Sometimes, the childminder does not fully consider ways for children to increase their awareness of the different languages their friends also speak at home.  Occasionally, the childminder misses opportunities to build further on children's good awareness of how to stay safe.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 increase children's awareness of other languages children also speak at home  build further on children's awareness of how to identify and manage risks for themselves.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children participating in activities indoors and in the garden.  The inspector sampled children's learning records and other relevant documentation.  The inspector took account of the views of parents from written feedback.  The inspector looked at and discussed the development plan with the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps herself updated about safeguarding procedures. For example, she attends regular safeguarding training that helps to refresh her awareness of how to protect children, such as from extreme views and harm. Since the previous inspection, the childminder has increased resources and activities that help children learn more about diversity in the wider world. For example, children enjoy reading about children in other countries and using a world map to find out where they live. The childminder works in close partnership with parents and other settings involved to help provide continuity in children's care and learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She interacts skilfully with children and builds on their knowledge, skills and interests. She carefully monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of her teaching and planning. The childminder competently identifies and narrows any emerging gaps in children's learning. For example, she provides plenty of experiences that help to increase the communication skills of less confident speakers. The childminder successfully builds on children's early reading skills. For example, children thoroughly enjoyed using letter moulds in sand. They found and made the letters in their names. The childminder builds effectively on children's already good counting skills and number recognition. For example, when playing with sand, children counted and talked about the numbers they found on the buckets.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder creates a welcoming and homely environment where children feel safe, secure and content. They form strong emotional bonds with the childminder. The childminder actively encourages healthy lifestyles. For example, children develop good physical skills and coordination when they play in the garden and go on woodland walks. Children develop a strong understanding of the importance of healthy eating and good personal hygiene practices.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are prepared well for their move on to school. They manage their own personal care needs well, such as putting on their coats and wiping their noses. Children make decisions about what they want to do. They communicate well with adults and friends. Children behave well and are keen to involve others in their play. They are well motivated and eager to learn new skills. Children like to work things out and solve problems, such as the best way to make letters using sand moulds.
