This provision is good

 The childminder monitors children's progress well. This allows her to identify children who may need additional support and plan appropriate support to help children catch up quickly.  Children build strong relationships with the childminder. They are settled and secure in her care, which helps to build good levels of emotional well-being.  Children have opportunities to learn about the similarities and differences between themselves and others. They learn to respect and value others.  The childminder plans a wide variety of stimulating activities based on children's interests. They engage, concentrate and learn new skills during their play.  Effective partnerships with parents mean that they work well together to meet children's care and learning needs effectively.  Children develop skills that prepare them for their future learning. For example, they follow simple instructions and complete routine tasks independently.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 On occasion, the childminder asks children questions but does not give them adequate time to think and provide a response.  The childminder's planning does not always take account of children's learning preferences, particularly when it comes to providing opportunities for making marks.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop teaching skills further to allow children more opportunities to extend their thinking skills  improve planning to increase the range of opportunities for children to make marks, particularly for those who prefer to learn in an outdoor environment.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on the children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector viewed a selection of documents, including policies and children's development records.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.  The inspector asked the childminder questions throughout the inspection to establish her understanding of the statutory requirements.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of her responsibility to keep children safe. She knows what action to take if she has a concern about a child. She makes good use of online information to increase her knowledge and understanding. For example, she has completed research to help her understand and recognise when a child may be at risk of being exposed to extreme ideas about what is right and wrong. The childminder has good partnerships with other professionals involved in children's care. They work together well to ensure that there is continuity in the care and education children receive. Since the last inspection, the childminder has made positive changes to her provision. For example, she has improved the way she gathers information from parents about children's development, to help her plan for their next stages in learning. The childminder is effective in her self-evaluation, which includes the views of parents.

p.3

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

She demonstrates a clear capacity to make ongoing improvements to her good provision for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder observes children as they play and learn, and accurately assesses their stage of development. She interacts well with children to guide their learning and help them make good progress. She encourages children's communication and language skills well. For example, she engages in dialogue with them and children enjoy books and stories with her to help extend their vocabulary. The childminder supports children's mathematical skills well. For instance, she encourages them to count when using puzzles and playdough.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder sensitively helps children to develop good relationships and behave well. She sets clear boundaries and praises children for positive behaviour. She encourages children to share, take turns and to be kind and helpful. Children have lots of opportunities for outdoor play and carefully negotiate space and equipment. The childminder places lots of emphasis on encouraging children to be healthy. They enjoy well-balanced, nutritious snacks and meals and learn about where their food comes from by visiting local farms to pick fruit.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. Older children develop their independence as they carry out tasks for themselves, including using the toilet and managing their personal care routines. Children are very good listeners. They contribute to discussions and recognise that they need to take turns.
