This provision is good

 The childminder has established strong working partnerships with parents and teachers from the local schools to promote a more collaborative approach to children's learning and development.  Teaching is purposeful and highly responsive to children's needs. Children are very well prepared for their move on to school and make good progress.  The childminder encourages children's communication and language skills effectively. She engages in meaningful conversations and introduces new words to help extend children's vocabularies.  The childminder is an excellent role model. She praises children's kindness and achievements and sets positive examples that help to foster their personal and emotional development.  The childminder is incredibly effective in supporting children's growing understanding of how to manage risks. Children's health and safety are promoted extremely well.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently use information gathered from assessment to precisely focus all future planning on helping children to make rapid progress in all areas of learning.

 use the information gained from assessment more effectively, so that planning for children's future learning helps them to make more rapid progress.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents through conversation and written feedback provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is a reflective practitioner and continually improves her practice. She uses professional development well to improve the quality of care and learning children receive. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse and the wider issues surrounding child protection. She understands her responsibility with regard to protecting children who may be at risk from harmful situations.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is very experienced and this is reflected in the skilful way she supports children's learning. She encourages children to speak about their experiences with family members through her practised questioning. Children are articulate and confident when speaking in a group. They listen and give their attention when others talk and respond appropriately to their comments. Children excitedly talk about their grandfathers' horses and how they are going to the seaside to stay in a caravan and ride on the donkeys. The childminder enhances children's literacy and mathematics skills very well. For example, she reads stories to them and teaches them about telling the time as they play. Children demonstrate what the clock face will look like at different times. They compare specific events that happen during a day, such as eating breakfast in the morning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder has an incredibly gentle and nurturing approach and children are extremely happy and secure in her care. Children show high levels of self-assurance in social situations. They say when they need help, demonstrate exceptional behaviour and convey themselves politely. Children display excellent levels of independence and the childminder is highly supportive of their spontaneous play ideas. They show their excitement to take their learning outside and have immense fun expressing themselves in role play activities. Children attach their wheeled toys together with a skipping rope and boost their physical skills as they pretend to tow each other to the garage. They learn about healthy eating and how food and exercise contribute to their well-being. Children's welfare is significantly enhanced as they learn how to stay safe when using cooking appliances. They have excellent opportunities to learn about the wider world.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are learning skills they will need for their future education. They take part in creative activities that help to develop their small-muscle skills and practise writing their names. Children are beginning to develop an awareness of the sounds that form letters and words. They know how information can be retrieved from a computer.
