This provision is good
The childminder attends relevant training and meets regularly with other professionals and childminders. This enables her to keep up to date with recent changes to guidance and legislation. Children develop good communication and language skills. The childminder models vocabulary well, asks purposeful questions and encourages children to think and respond. The childminder successfully fosters children's expressive arts and design skills. Children thoroughly enjoy imaginative and creative play and link their activities to real- life experiences. Children are starting to manage their own personal care needs, including toileting and handwashing. The childminder has a good understanding of how to promote healthy lifestyles and supports children to extend their physical development. The childminder provides children with clear guidance and simple instructions. Children listen attentively and interact positively with their peers.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always effectively use the views and opinions of parents and children to support her self-evaluation process. The childminder does not always plan precisely for what children need to learn next to promote even more rapid progress.

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed all areas of the childminder's home accessed by children, and observed play and learning opportunities. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at and discussed a range of records, and policies and procedures with the childminder, including evidence of qualifications and the suitability of all adults living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written questionnaires obtained by the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is clearly passionate about her daily role and is dedicated to her childminding provision. She recognises her current strengths and areas for future development. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of the categories of abuse and neglect. She fully understands what procedures to follow to protect children's welfare. In addition, the childminder reinforces appropriate safety boundaries and supports children to gain their own awareness of how to keep themselves and others safe.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children actively engage and show focus in their play. The childminder uses her skills and knowledge to provide them with a variety of interesting and challenging learning experiences. Children's mathematical skills are developing well. For example, they fill and empty different sized containers as they explore messy materials. Furthermore, the childminder introduces children to the concepts of speed and distance during small-world play. She encourages them to recognise colour and shape as they build structures and models. The childminder communicates well with parents on a daily basis to keep them informed. She has effective systems in place to ensure parents have a clear overview of their children's ongoing learning and development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder continually supports children to be independent and encourages them to attempt to do things for themselves. The environment is warm and friendly, and children clearly have fun with the childminder. This makes a good contribution to their emotional well-being. The childminder has developed good relationships with local primary schools to support children's future moves. She shares relevant information with teachers, including activity planning about current themes and topics, to enable her to complement children's learning. The childminder uses a calm and firm approach when minor disagreements occur between children. She works closely with parents in relation to behaviour management to create consistency of care.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their starting points and acquire a wide range of skills in readiness for the next stage in their learning. They are confident and motivated. Children show good manners and are beginning to share and take turns with their friends. They learn to respect each other's differences and similarities. Children develop a good understanding of the world. For instance, they demonstrate delight and excitement as they participate in planting activities, where they learn about growth and how things change over time.
