Inspection activities
The inspector viewed all areas of the childminder's home accessed by children and observed play and learning opportunities. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at and discussed a range of records, policies and procedures with the childminder, including evidence of qualifications and the suitability of all adults living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written testimonials obtained by the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is fully aware of how to protect children from harm and neglect. She knows who to contact if she has any concerns or issues. She has attended recent training to enable her to understand her responsibility to protect children who may be at risk of being exposed to extreme ideas and thoughts. The childminder is dedicated to furthering her professional development and refreshing her skills and knowledge. She attends regular cluster meetings and works closely with other childminders to share ideas and suggestions, helping her to extend future learning experiences and opportunities for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows individual children well. She uses knowledge from her qualifications effectively to plan a varied selection of activities to support what they need to learn next. The childminder gets down to children's level as they play and offers good help and guidance when appropriate. For example, she models and demonstrates how to complete tasks during a play-dough activity to support children to use different tools and equipment. The childminder provides parents with good verbal feedback about their children's daily routines and learning opportunities. This helps parents to feel informed and supports them to continue their children's learning at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Good settling-in procedures help to ensure children feel comfortable and at ease from the outset. Children are happy, content and confident in the childminder's care. Healthy lifestyles are effectively promoted. The childminder encourages children to follow good hygiene practices and provides them with a selection of home-cooked meals and healthy snack options. Children are supported well with their future moves on to nursery and school. The childminder has established positive links with local primary schools and shares relevant information with teachers for early years children attending both settings. These help her to establish a complementary approach to meeting children's learning and enhance their future outcomes.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children gain the key skills needed for the next stage in their learning. They are inquisitive, show curiosity and are willing to have a go. Children access a wide range of age-appropriate resources and engage in a selection of interesting learning experiences. For instance, they thoroughly enjoy small-world activities and explore and investigate different materials. These help to extend their understanding of the world. Children are starting to make their own choices and decisions. Their independence and self-care skills are developing well.
