Part 3. Welfare, health and safety of pupils Paragraph 7, 7(a) and 7(b) The school has produced a safeguarding policy, which sets out the school’s arrangements for the safeguarding of pupils, together with the responsibilities of staff and of the proprietor to ensure effective implementation. The policy is available for parents to download from the school’s website. The policy includes details of the key safeguarding contacts both within the school and the local authority. The policy has regard to the latest statutory guidance, including the Department for Education (DfE) guidance, ‘Keeping children safe in education, September 2016’ (KCSIE). All staff have been trained in the scope and implementation of the safeguarding policy and have signed to acknowledge that they have read Part 1 of the KCSIE document. All staff receive annual refresher training in safeguarding. The school’s designated safeguarding lead has received current training in line with

the requirements of the local safeguarding children’s board. Training to this standard is currently in progress for a second member of staff. Appropriate procedures and records are in place to support the effective implementation of the policy, including the referral of any concerns to the appropriate officers and social services of the local authority. Paragraphs 9, 9(a), 9(b), 9(c) and 10 The school has prepared comprehensive and appropriate policies for the management of pupils’ behaviour, the prevention of bullying, and the use of sanctions for misbehaviour. Staff have an excellent understanding of the behavioural characteristics and potential vulnerabilities of each pupil. They are alert to welfare risks and maintain a continuous dialogue with pupils’ families. The curriculum provides frequent opportunities for pupils to learn about how to keep themselves safe. Staff update pupils’ individual behaviour records daily. The records include a summary

of any misbehaviour, bullying, and sanctions applied. Records are maintained on an electronic management information system, which also informs the proprietor’s records for the purpose of monitoring and evaluation. The management system ensures the completion of a full chronological record of incidents and sanctions, together with details of all related communications, actions and outcomes. Senior leaders are proactive in monitoring behaviour and intervene appropriately to prevent escalation of any issue that might arise. The school shares this information with the relevant authority, or school responsible for placing a child at TLG - Nottingham. Paragraphs 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 16(a) and 16(b) The school has comprehensive policies for all aspects of welfare, health and safety, including the assessment and mitigation of risks. Staff provide high levels of supervision on the school site and for any off-site activities.
p.2
Main inspection findings
Staff complete risk assessments for each individual pupil on entry to the school; these are reviewed regularly to ensure that each student’s individual characteristics are understood and assessed appropriately. The proprietor has completed an appropriate risk assessment for all areas of the premises. Staff ensure that suitable arrangements and risk assessments are in place for all off-site activities. All staff have received training in the administration of first aid; they implement arrangements in line with the school’s policy. They maintain appropriate records of accidents and ensure that all staff understand when the emergency services should be used to attend to a serious injury. Senior leaders implement appropriate procedures for the admission of new pupils and for the recording of attendance. Staff follow up any absences immediately and ensure that placing schools and local authorities are informed of any absences.

Main inspection findings
Paragraph 12 The proprietor and headteacher have a comprehensive understanding of their responsibilities to ensure fire safety. The proprietor has completed a suitable fire-risk assessment for the premises and arrangements are in place for the regular review of this assessment. Staff complete regular checks on all aspects of fire safety and fire-fighting equipment, including the fire alarm, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, and fire escape routes. They have set up appropriate contracts with external companies for the annual maintenance of all aspects of premises safety. Annual checks are completed on all electrical equipment used in the school. The headteacher is trained as fire warden for the school. Staff supervise fire evacuation drills each half term and maintain appropriate records of these. School leaders have ensured that the standards in this part are already met. Part 5. Main inspection findings
Paragraphs 23(1), 23(1)(a) to (c), 24(1), 24(1)(a) to (c), 28(1)(b) to (d) Suitable toilet and washing facilities are provided separately for boys, girls and staff. These meet statutory requirements, including the provision of an adequate supply of hot and cold water. The temperature of the hot water in washbasins does not pose a scalding risk. Water that is suitable for drinking is labelled clearly as such. The school uses the facilities of a local sports centre for games and physical education. Appropriate changing rooms and showers are available at these premises. A suitable room is available for use as a medical room. It includes a washing facility and is near to toilets. This room is suitable for the short-term care of any sick or injured pupil. premises are appropriate for the teaching activities conducted on the site. There is also sufficient external lighting to ensure safe entry to and exit from the premises. There is suitable space at the front of the school for recreation during breaktimes, under the supervision of staff. An additional area at the rear of the school provides suitable further secure space for recreation. Leaders are currently improving this area to extend the facilities for small games and other activities. The areas used by the school are separated by locked doors from the rest of the church premises in which the school is located. The church premises are only used one afternoon a week during school term time. This use has no impact on the school’s operation.
