This provision is good
The childminder shares information with other early years settings and schools that children attend. This helps her to support children's good progress. The childminder uses observations and assessments effectively to help identify children's levels of learning and what they need to learn next. The childminder gives children opportunities to socialise with others, for example, at local toddler groups. She encourages them to learn, share and make friendships. Children develop important social skills which helps them in readiness for their move on to nursery or school. Babies demonstrate that they have a close emotional attachment with the childminder. They openly show affection and give the childminder cuddles when needing reassurance or when they are tired. The childminder helps children to learn about their local environment. For example, she takes them for walks in the street and talks to children about crossing the road at

appropriate safety signs. This helps children to understand how to keep themselves safe.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder has attended training, such as, paediatric first aid, child protection and food safety, she has not fully considered looking at broader topics to expand her knowledge and skills.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

consider a broader range of professional development opportunities to extend and strengthen knowledge and skills, in order to help increase the potential for children to achieve at the highest level.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through the written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder regularly evaluates her practice and identifies improvements. She asks parents and children for their views and includes these in any changes she makes. This helps her to provide an interesting and stimulating environment where children flourish. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge of child protection up to date, for example, by attending training. She knows the signs and symptoms that may cause concern and is aware of the indicators of children being drawn into situations that put them at significant risk. The childminder uses safety equipment to stop babies and young children from accessing certain parts of her home. This further promotes their safety.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gathers information from parents to help her meet children's care and learning requirements when they first start. Parents comment positively about the childminder and comment that their children immediately settle into the warm, friendly environment well. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills well. She uses clear, simple language that younger children copy. The childminder helps children to extend their mathematical skills. She uses positional language when helping children to find toy eggs around her home. Children display good listening skills and follow simple instructions, for example, as they search in and behind objects. The childminder encourages children to develop a love of books and stories. She reads children their favourite stories and talks to them about the pictures in the book. The childminder asks children to make noises for different weather conditions, such as, a snow storm. This

keeps children's attention and involves them in the story, developing their literacy skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder promotes children's independence well. For example, she asks them to peel their own banana for snack. Children behave very well. The childminder uses effective strategies to manage children's behaviour. She promotes positive behaviour and praises children for their achievements. This helps to raise their self-esteem. The childminder takes children to local soft- play centres and the park, in order to help develop their physical skills. In the garden, children play on trikes and bounce on the trampoline.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are excited to take part in activities led by the childminder that promote their next steps in learning. Babies freely explore the childminders home and play with toys that help develop their understanding of cause and effect. They press buttons on toys to make them move. Children develop a good imagination and replicate what they have seen at home. They play with pots and pans, and pretend to cook food. Children make good progress in their learning from their starting points.
