This provision is good

 The childminder and her assistants accurately evaluate the overall quality of their provision. They are ambitious to develop further and work well as a team.  The childminder and her assistants create a warm and welcoming environment. They form strong bonds with the children, who settle in quickly and become confident learners.  Children are motivated by well-planned activities that stimulate their imagination. They are helped to communicate their ideas and make their own decisions about their play and learning.  Children achieve well. The childminder accurately assesses the progress children make and plans well for the next steps in their learning. She prepares children for the next stage in their education, including starting school.  Children are well behaved. The childminder and her assistants set a good example through their gentle and considerate manner towards the children.  Relationships with parents are good. Parents feel well informed and appreciate the care

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder's assistants are very caring but do not always recognise when to intervene to extend children's learning as fully as possible. The childminder does not make the best of opportunities to support their professional development.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 increase the support for assistants to continually develop their skills and knowledge to help them to recognise how to extend children's learning as fully as possible.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The experienced childminder has a strong drive to build on the quality of her provision and, overall, works closely with her assistants to discuss plans for future developments. For example, she has made a smooth transition to a new home and promptly established attractive and safe areas for children to play and learn indoors and out. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Robust policies underpin the childminder's good practice and promote children's well-being and safety. The childminder has good arrangements to ensure her assistants have an up-to-date knowledge of child protection and first aid.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder creates a warm and encouraging environment where children are welcomed and are keen to play and learn. For example, children have full access to many colourful and attractive toys and books in the well-planned playrooms. She helps children to settle quickly into positive routines that help them feel secure and confident. Motivating resources, such as the mud kitchen, craft materials and construction toys, stimulate children's interest and concentration. The childminder and her assistants help children to learn to play and learn together. For example, they create a large model of Noah's Ark together using a good range of creative and design skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

There is a calm, friendly and busy atmosphere. The childminder and her assistants use a range of strategies to help children grow in confidence and security. For example, they sing many songs together to help new or less confident children participate and settle in. The childminder promotes children's knowledge and understanding of healthy lifestyles and good hygiene procedures. She helps children to make healthy choices, to try new foods and to be physically active. She helps children to be tolerant towards those who hold different ideas and beliefs to their own. For example, children learn about cultural festivals and anniversaries from around the world.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children achieve well and make good progress from their individual starting points. They develop a good range of skills and attitudes to help them improve their achievements. Children's early reading and writing skills are developed well. For example, children enjoy following the text and pictures in stories they know well. They express strong preferences for their favourite books. Children develop their counting skills well and learn to order objects by shape, colour and size. For example, they look for different shapes in their painting and collage work.
