He looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder makes good use of training to ensure that her knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures are up to date. She is vigilant and makes sure that her home and garden is safe for children to play in. The childminder is firmly committed to continually improving her setting and self-evaluation is effective. She establishes a positive partnership with parents, who appreciate the childminder's consideration for their children's development, welfare and happiness. She gathers the views of parents, for example, through regular discussions and questionnaires. This has helped to deepen the childminder's knowledge of children's interests and to support their learning at home.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder helps children to settle quickly into positive routines that help them feel secure and confident. She accurately assesses their starting points and plans well to support them in the next stage of their learning. She helps children follow their interests and play with toys and resources which capture their imagination. For example, children develop their language skills through involving them in games and stories based on their interest and appreciation of animal noises and animals' homes. Children make decisions about their learning and show confidence in their choices. For example, resources are organised well so that children access these easily and choose what to play with. She provides a good range of toys and equipment to help babies develop their walking and balance. Children respond well to praise as they pull themselves up and take independent steps.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder enables all children to feel a sense of pride in their achievements. For example, she makes good use of displays of children's work. This helps children to reflect on their experiences and successes. The childminder promotes children's social skills well. For example, at mealtimes, she talks sociably about the children's day. Regular visits to playgroups and the park help children to mix with others and develop strong physical skills. She helps children to recognise risks and begin to manage their own safety. The childminder promotes children's understanding of healthy lifestyles effectively.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in all aspects of their learning and development. They develop the skills and attitudes they need for their further learning. Children are well prepared for starting school. They concentrate and follow instructions. Children's counting and mathematical skills are developed well. Children learn to enjoy listening to stories and joining in with rhymes and songs.
