This provision is good
Children form emotional bonds with the childminder. Children are calm, content and thoroughly enjoy their time with her. Children develop as active learners, making good progress from their starting points. The childminder has developed effective procedures to share information with staff at other settings children attend, helping to provide a consistent approach. The childminder is committed to maintaining good standards in children's learning and care. For example, she shares ideas with other childminders and researches online to help update her knowledge and skills. The childminder reflects on her practice to continually improve. For example, adding names and photographs to coat pegs has helped to develop children's independence and prepare children for the move to nursery or school. Children learn about people's differences beyond their own experiences. For instance, the childminder uses a wide range of resources, such as story books and play figures,

to teach them about respecting and valuing diversity.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not fully encourage parents to share information about children's learning at home to complement future plans and support their progress further. At times, the childminder does not encourage children's growing understanding of numbers and how they are used.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children taking part in activities with the childminder. The inspector had discussions with the childminder about her practice and children's learning and development. The inspector sampled documents, including children's records. The inspector viewed the areas of the childminder's home used by children. The inspector read questionnaires from parents and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to recognise and report any concerns about a child's welfare. She assesses and minimises risks to children effectively. Parents are kept well informed. For example, the childminder provides regular updates about children's progress with online recording systems, a daily diary and discussions. Parents express positive views; for instance, they state that the childminder is very calm and approachable. The childminder successfully identifies areas for development that benefit all the children she is caring for. For example, she ensures her activity plans help encourage children's learning. Children were intrigued when they planted cucumber seeds in pots and watered them, keen to know if they had grown yet.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gets to know children well. She effectively reviews their progress to identify any gaps in their learning and plans activities to help them catch up. The childminder provides a variety of experiences to build on children's learning. For example, children enjoy picking up items with tongs to help develop their hand muscles in preparation for pencil control. The childminder supports children's language and communication skills effectively. For instance, she describes the shapes, numbers and colours as children paint using a range of colours to make rainbows, introducing new words and ideas.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are developing confidence and independence. For example, they happily take on responsibilities such as helping to tidy up. They show a strong sense of belonging and security. Children are learning to see to their own personal needs, such as handwashing. Children behave well. The childminder teaches children the importance of taking turns and being kind to others, and children respond well to her. The childminder successfully supports children's awareness of healthy lifestyles. For example, children enjoy nutritious snacks such as cucumber and carrot sticks. Children develop good physical skills. For instance, they enjoy climbing up the ladders to go down the slide in the garden and manoeuvring the play car around the patio.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children express their views and personal interests in play, for example, they choose independently from the resources. Children are strongly motivated and concentrate well at activities. They are willing to 'have a go' and work things out for themselves. Children develop good social skills, for example, as they put on a puppet show for their friends. Children are well prepared with the skills they need for a successful move to pre-school and school.
