children and young people since the most recent full inspection

This home was judged good at the full inspection. At this interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has sustained effectiveness .

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Young people have established good trusting relationships with staff. This enables young people to better engage, and take on board the advice and guidance that the staff provide.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Since the last inspection, one young person has moved on to semi-independent living accommodation. This has been a well-planned transition, with introductory visits and ongoing support provided by the staff.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The progress of young people is varied, with some making good progress, whereas others’ experiences are fluctuating or declining. These instabilities have occurred because of issues affecting individual young people’s emotional well-being. Staff work tirelessly alongside other professionals to provide young people with a stable, secure and nurturing environment to support their individual needs.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

For some young people, risk-taking behaviour has reduced; this includes going missing. Young people’s behaviour is well managed, with no physical interventions and only a small number of sanctions given since the last inspection.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

Staff work closely with other professionals and agencies to provide young people with the best support available. A professional said: ‘Staff contact me and keep me up to date. They know him well and manage X so well and understand him. X has made progress; this is the most settled he has been for some time.’

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

The monitoring of the service remains appropriate and identifies areas for improvement. Action has been taken to address the majority of four requirements and one recommendation made at the last inspection. A leaving care plan is now completed. Money available for young people to access social and leisure activities has increased. This extends their daily life experiences, enabling them to build self- confidence. Ofsted is notified of matters that are considered serious. Complaints records have been made available for inspection. The refurbishment of one bathroom has improved the facilities used by young people.

p.2

children and young people since the most recent full inspection

One requirement remains unmet. The independent visitor does not report and give an opinion on whether young people are safeguarded effectively. The provider has started to address this matter. However, this still falls short of complying with the regulations.

What the inspection judgements mean

At the interim inspection, we make a judgement on whether the home has improved in effectiveness, sustained effectiveness, or declined in effectiveness since the previous full inspection. This is in line with the ‘Inspection of children’s homes: framework for inspection’.

Information about this inspection

Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children’s home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference that adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition, the inspectors have tried to understand what the children’s home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people whom it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
