This provision is good

 The childminder makes good use of her close links with the local authority and works well with her co-childminder to meet children's needs.  The quality of teaching is good. She shares information with parents regularly and keeps them updated about their child's learning and development to encourage consistent support for children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make full use of opportunities to develop her knowledge and skills even further to help raise the quality of children's experiences to a higher level.  The childminder has not yet managed to fully develop a tracking system to support children's progress even more from the very start of their time at the setting.

p.1

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder recognises the possible signs of abuse and knows who to contact should she have cause for concern about the welfare of a child. She undertakes regular checks of the environment and takes appropriate steps to ensure it remains safe for children. The childminder understands the importance of working with other professionals. The childminder works in partnership with her co-childminder and provides a consistent and continuous approach to children's learning and care. Relationships with parents are good. Information is shared daily about what children have achieved and experienced.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder helps children to develop a good range of skills. She uses effective ongoing discussion to support their development and understanding. For example, she teaches children new vocabulary and helps them to develop counting skills, exploring modelling dough and pasta. The childminder makes learning fun to help engage children. For example, she encourages their language and imagination enthusiastically and they join in readily with role play shopping. The childminder includes all children in activities, offering help to the younger children as needed.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder helps children to recognise and acknowledge their feelings and they enjoy discussing these and choosing a 'feelings face'. She encourages independence and cooperation to help prepare children for later school life. The childminder routinely praises children during their play and routines. This helps to promote their self-esteem. She takes children to the local parks and provides space in the garden to help support their physical development. The childminder teaches children about the importance of safe and healthy lifestyles. She has a calm and patient approach as she supports children's welfare needs and helps them to develop confidence in managing these.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children quickly grow in independence and make choices about their play. For example, they help themselves to toys and move confidently between activities. They play happily together, learning to share and take turns. Children become confident communicators and clearly express their wishes and needs. They concentrate well and are motivated to learn. They are well prepared for their future learning and for the move to school.
