This home was judged good at the full inspection. At this interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has improved effectiveness .
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Children and young people’s experiences and outcomes have improved since the last inspection. From their starting points, they develop skills and strategies to manage any concerning or risky behaviours in a much more constructive manner. They feel very well supported and cared for by the staff team and managers in this home.

Therapeutic models of support and intervention are very strongly embedded and used by all staff to very positive effect. Staff receive relevant training and have excellent skills and expertise to support children and young people in their care. Staff use a range of models and assessment tools to determine the presenting needs of children and young people when they move into the home. Monthly ‘team around the child’ meetings and therapeutic plans further develop the work done to support children and young people. Such intensive and specialist work enables staff and managers to track and monitor the progress made and to make any necessary adjustments to plans and support packages.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Excellent work is being done to support one young person who will be moving to adult service provision later this year. Staff have sensitively developed an independence plan to assist her in developing the skills necessary to make a successful transition to adult life. This includes a clear plan of work to support her with budgeting and shopping skills and use of public transport. Such work will greatly assist in the young person’s move on from this home.
p.2
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Children and young people feel very well supported and report that all of the staff really care about them. They also feel able to express their wishes, views and feelings openly with staff. There have been no reported complaints from children, young people or others since the last inspection and for some considerable time prior to that. Children and young people have access to a comments/complaints box in the home, but rarely use it. This reflects the ability of staff to support children and young people and in them feeling able to informally discuss and resolve any issues that they may have. Where physical restraint is used, this is carried out by suitably qualified and trained staff. It is only used when all other methods of support have not been successful and there is a serious concern for the safety of either a child/young person or others. Records reflect that when used, detailed debriefs take place with relevant

children/young people, and their views and feelings are clearly explored. Sanctions for any concerning or risky behaviours also reflect a careful consideration of children’s and young people’s needs and abilities. They are proportionate and measured for their success and effectiveness.
p.3
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Children and young people make significant progress in all areas of their lives during their time living in this home. The staff support them to have regular contact with family members and significant others. Children and young people have a wide range of social activities and opportunities provided and learn new social skills as a result. For some children, consideration is being given to them potentially either returning to live with family members or foster carers. This reflects the strong ethos of staff and managers in ensuring the best possible outcomes.

A number of shortfalls were identified at the last inspection. As a result, the recruitment and selection policy and procedures for the home have been reviewed and amended. Robust checks and measures are now in place to ensure that full information is available and checked for new members of staff. This will ensure that only suitable and safe adults are recruited to work in this home.
p.3
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
Managers have ensured that placing authorities have provided detailed information and pathway plans for relevant young people. The staff team works closely and proactively with placing authorities and other involved agencies to ensure that identified needs are known and met for young people. Records show that staff and managers are challenging and chasing placing authorities for any missing information.
p.3
children and young people since the most recent full inspection
The location risk assessment for the home has been reviewed and updated. It now clearly reflects any additional concerns and issues relating to the location of the home. Staff have been fully briefed as to potential concerns and issues arising from any organised shooting or hunting parties in the local area. Dates of such events have been entered into the home diary and guidance provided to staff as to their responsibilities.

What the inspection judgements mean
At the interim inspection we make a judgement on whether the home has improved in effectiveness, sustained effectiveness, or declined in effectiveness since the previous full inspection. This is in line with the ‘Inspection of children's homes: framework for inspection’.

Information about this inspection
Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people living in the children's home. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the difference that adults make to the lives of children and young people. They read case files, watched how professional staff work with children, young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care given to children and young people. Wherever possible, they talked to children, young people and their families. In addition, the inspectors have tried to understand what the children's home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people who it is trying to help, protect and look after. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the home and the progress and experiences of children and young people since the most recent full inspection.
