This provision is good
The childminder is well qualified. The overall quality of her teaching is good. She uses her knowledge and skills well to support children to make good progress in their learning. The childminder effectively manages possible risks to children. She reviews and amends her policies in the light of any event that may occur to prevent this happening again. This information is communicated well to parents to maintain a transparent and joint approach to keeping children safe. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder helps them to understand appropriate rules and boundaries in her home, such as taking turns and sharing equipment. The childminder seeks the views of parents on the quality of her provision. This helps her to seek areas for development and drive improvements forward. Children are motivated and eagerly join in with activities. They become engaged and enjoy their learning. This demonstrates a positive attitude that helps to prepare them
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
There are occasions when the childminder does not provide enough opportunities for children to look at and handle books independently in order to develop their early reading skills further. The childminder's professional development plans are not targeted precisely enough to achieve an even higher quality of teaching.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues. She knows how to act and respond should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder's home is safe and secure. The front door is locked at all times when children are present and the garden is fully enclosed. Good systems are in place to monitor children's assessment information. This helps the childminder to review how children are progressing towards the early learning goals and to provide early help, if required, to narrow any gaps in their learning. The childminder maintains a generally good overview of the educational activities she provides for children. This ensures most experiences provided reflect children's interests and stage of development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder helps children to develop their mathematics skills. She encourages them to count how many crackers they have on their plate at snack time. Words, such as half, are introduced when children enquire about how much they have eaten. The childminder supports children's communication skills equally well. She encourages them to talk about exciting events, such as their imminent birthday parties, and asks effective questions to find out more. Good systems are in place to observe and assess where children are in their learning. The childminder regularly shares this information with parents and encourages them to share what children have been learning at home. This information is used well to plan experiences that support children's good progress.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides high levels of care for children. Their emotional and physical well-being are given utmost priority. Detailed policies and procedures, such as administering medicine, underpin her practice very well. Ongoing information sharing between the childminder and parents ensures children receive consistency of care. The childminder provides a welcoming environment where children play happily and develop good relationships with her. She ensures they have daily opportunities to access the outdoor area, where their learning is enhanced. Children use equipment, such as swings, confidently, knowing the childminder is close by supervising them well at all times.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning. They are developing a range of skills and knowledge in preparation for school. Children are articulate communicators who listen well and contribute to conversations. They respond confidently to instructions and concentrate well during play and planned activities. Early writing skills are developing well. Children make marks on paper using resources, such as cotton buds and paint, and name some of the shapes they have made.
