Discussions were held about her practice and how well children learn.  The inspector took account of parents' written feedback.  The inspector examined arrangements for safeguarding.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder keeps up-to-date with early years requirements. For example, she attends local training courses and refers to useful websites. She works closely with her assistant in planning activities and ensuring children are safe. The childminder has established a strong partnership with parents and other settings. For example, she effectively seeks the views of parents and keeps them well informed about their child's progress. This helps parents to support their children's learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to keep children safe in the setting and on visits. She knows the action to take should she have concerns about a child's welfare.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder makes observations to assess children's skills and she gains a clear understanding of their individual interests. She uses this information to plan and provide interesting activities which are well suited to children's interests and needs. Good opportunities are provided for children to develop their speaking, listening and mathematics skills. Children gain new knowledge of the natural world. For example, they visit local lakes and observe swans on their nests. High-quality outdoor apparatus and equipment is used successfully to develop children's physical skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has created a welcoming and stimulating environment where children learn, develop and flourish. Children are very happy in the setting and are eager to learn. The childminder continually encourages good manners and provides praise to motivate the children. Children try new things independently and are confident in seeking help when needed. They get along with each other and make good progress in sharing and taking turns. Children enjoy healthy meals and snacks. Good hygiene routines, such as hand washing, are well established.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points. Young children listen carefully to instructions. They acquire new words and apply these when playing. Young children show an increasing understanding of numbers, common shapes and mathematical language. For example, when building structures with three-dimensional shapes, they used terms such as tall and high. They name the colours of the shapes and count up to five. Children make very good gains in their physical development. For instance, they show considerable coordination and control when balancing, climbing and travelling. Children are well prepared for the next stages of their learning.
