The childminder focuses strongly on supporting children's speaking, listening and social skills. This helps children to develop those key skills ready for their next stage in learning. The childminder provides children with a good range of engaging and interesting activities. She complements her home provision with exciting outings which children enjoy. For example, they visit local parks, nature trails and play groups. The effective partnership with parents and other early years professionals helps to provide a consistent approach to the continuity of children's care and learning. The childminder and her assistant use robust risk assessments to keep children safe in her home and garden and on regular outings.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The monitoring of children's progress is not yet rigorous enough to provide the childminder with precise information to ensure any possible gaps in learning are identified even more swiftly. The childminder does not offer many experiences to extend and build on children's understanding and skills in technology.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors. The inspector viewed the rooms and outdoor area used by children. The inspector held discussions with the childminder, for example, about children’s learning. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children’s development records, and checked evidence of the childminder’s and assistants safeguarding knowledge. The inspector took account of the views of parents, as shown in their written comments.
p.2

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder ensures that she and her assistant are clear about the procedures to follow should there be any concerns about a child's welfare. She has effective policies to keep children safe. Overall, the childminder observes children and tracks the progress they make. She understands how to identify and support children who might not be making expected progress. She regularly reflects on her provision to identify ongoing improvements. For example, she has improved the information for parents about children's learning and how they can help them achieve their next steps. The childminder ensures her assistant constantly updates his knowledge and skills to help him meet children's needs and preferences.
