This provision is good

 The quality of teaching is good. The childminder uses children's personal experiences to expand and develop their learning and this helps to support children to make good progress. Children particularly enjoy dressing-up and small world activities. Some children benefit from extra-curricular activities including dancing and riding lessons.  The childminder knows the children extremely well and children build exceptionally warm and trusting relationships with her and each other. The childminder takes every opportunity to help children to learn in the clean, well-organised and well-resourced environment.  Children access a good range of innovative play equipment and stimulating resources, which captures their imagination and interest. For example, they dig for carrots and potatoes in the garden before going into the magical 'story grotto' to share a story.  Children's behaviour is exemplary. They show a very high level of respect towards each

other. They are courteous, kind and wait patiently for their turn to use favourite toys and equipment. Children fully immerse themselves in all activities and show good attitudes for learning.  The childminder is committed to improving her professional skills. She has attended training to help expand her understanding of her role and responsibilities.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasionally, children are not given enough time to think and respond to the childminder's enthusiastic questioning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 enhance children's critical thinking skills by providing them with more time to consider and respond to questions.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities in the inside and outside play spaces.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector looked at children’s records, planning documents, risk assessments, incident records, evidence of suitability and a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures.  The inspector took account of the written views of parents received on the day of the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder creates a safe environment by reviewing risks regularly. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has completed training, helping to ensure she has a good understanding of her duty to protect children's welfare and to identify those who may be at risk of harm. The childminder works very closely with parents and other professionals. She evaluates her provision well to identify ways of making improvements. For example, she has identified further improvements to the outside play area.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is skilled in supporting children's learning through good-quality interactions. For example, she uses successful questioning and well-defined explanations to help ensure that children fully understand what they are learning. Resources are plentiful, stimulating and are of very good quality. These are carefully selected to help ensure that all areas of learning are delivered effectively. The childminder knows each child remarkably well. She monitors their progress through observation and assessment and this helps her to identify and address gaps in their learning in a timely manner.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children are exceedingly happy, relaxed and content in the childminders care. She fully values their contributions. For example, she takes every opportunity to seek their views. The childminder compliments and rewards children for their efforts, helping to enhance their self-esteem extremely well. For example, when they help to organise picnic lunches in the garden. The childminder adopts extremely high standards of healthy practices and encourages the children to do the same. Children listen responsively and take turns to speak; demonstrating that they understand the importance of valuing each other's contributions. This helps to promote tolerance and respect.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are enthusiastic learners with high levels of curiosity, motivation and imagination. They are particularly eager to learn and show high levels of concentration and perseverance. For example, in the garden children take the time to create a mud kitchen from scratch, gathering the soil, water, and the equipment needed. Children independently select toys and tidy them away, strengthening their communication, literacy and mathematical skills even further as they do so. For example, they discuss what they are doing, count the toys, read the labels and match toys to the correct containers.
