This provision is good
The childminder has reflected upon and improved many aspects of her practice since her last inspection. She has acted upon advice from local authority professionals and is keen to develop her service even further, to support children's outcomes. The childminder is well qualified. The overall quality of her teaching is good. She has a good understanding of how young children learn and plans activities that support their continued learning and development. Children make good progress in their learning. A stimulating and interesting environment is provided for children, indoors and outdoors. The childminder provides a good range of accessible resources which children can use, move and combine in a variety of ways, to direct their own learning. Established daily routines, such as tidying up and mealtimes, support children's understanding of behavioural expectations within the childminder's home.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder demonstrates a proactive approach in preparing children for when they start nursery or school. She gathers information from teachers prior to their start date to help children to become familiar with new experiences and routines.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
There are times when the childminder does not use what she already knows about each child, in order to challenge them to the highest level during adult-led activities. The childminder's professional development plans are not targeted precisely enough to achieve an even higher quality of teaching.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

enhance planning to ensure that all adult-led activities are tailored to children's individual learning needs and their learning is challenged to an even higher level extend plans for targeted professional development opportunities that help to ensure teaching is of an even higher quality.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of signs and symptoms that may indicate possible abuse to children. She knows how to respond and who to contact should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. Good arrangements are in place to risk assess the environment. The childminder carries out daily visual checks to ensure all areas accessed by children are safe. Children's assessment information is monitored well. The childminder effectively tracks children's progress and identifies areas where children may require additional support. This enables her to provide additional experiences and make improvements to the environment that help children to make progress in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Overall, systems to plan, observe and assess children's learning are good. Information is used to plan activities that help children to make good progress in their learning. The childminder shares children's ongoing learning with their parents. Effective arrangements, such as daily discussions and sharing photographs of children's play are in place. This helps to develop a clear picture of children's achievements. Children benefit from close interactions with the childminder. She sits alongside them as they play, using effective teaching strategies well, overall, to support their learning. Children enjoy making toy trains using building blocks. The childminder talks to them about the shape of the wheels and encourages them to count how many there are. She demonstrates how a toy helicopter works, modelling how to wind it up. This supports children's understanding of technology and how to operate mechanical toys.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children access a warm and welcoming home environment where their emotional needs are well supported. Effective arrangements are in place to help new children to become familiar with the setting. They quickly settle, develop confidence and begin to develop relationships with the childminder. Good partnerships with parents ensure children's physical needs are met. Effective information sharing provides continuity and consistency in the care children receive. Written comments from parents support this view and include statements, such as, 'I am incredibly pleased with the way my child has been welcomed and settled into the childminder's care'.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Although they have only been attending for a short period, children are beginning to show signs of making good progress. They quickly show motivation when exploring their environment, showing curiosity about toys and equipment available for them. Key skills, such as counting and ordering numbers are developing well. Children begin to place numbered blocks in the correct order, recognising many numbers up to 10. This supports them well with the skills they need, in readiness for school.
