helping the childminder tidy the toys after play.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not fully consider the views of parents to help identify further areas for improvement within her setting.  On occasion, the childminder misses opportunities to build on children's interests to help them make even better progress.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 seek the views of parents to help identify areas for development and to continuously drive improvement  use every opportunity to enhance the already good teaching, by using children's interests more effectively so that children make even better progress.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge of child protection procedures up-to-date. For example, she knows the signs to recognise when a child may be at risk of being exposed to extreme views about what is right and wrong. The childminder keeps her professional knowledge up-to-date. She reads relevant documentation and shares information with other childminders. This helps her to sharpen her teaching skills and provide fun activities that engage and motivate children. Overall, the childminder is effective in her self-evaluation, she uses continuous professional development well to make ongoing improvements to her good provision for children. The childminder has improved the way in which she monitors children's progress to quickly identify any gaps in their learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder supports children's language and communication skills well. For example, she uses young children's interests in puzzles to teach them animal names and the sounds they make. This helps support children's listening and attention skills. Children have lots of opportunities to practise using resources to help develop their ability to handle small objects. For instance, the childminder provides rice play to help children practise picking up objects between their thumb and fingers. The childminder encourages young children's physical and emotional skills well. For example, young children have opportunities to help develop their skills in moving, such as climbing stairs independently with support from the childminder.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder understands her role in keeping children safe and protecting them from harm. She completes daily risk assessments and encourages children to be aware of possible dangers. For example, children learn how to cross the road safely and the importance of staying close to the childminder when they are in public locations. She sensitively helps younger children to develop good relationships and behave well. For example, the childminder reminds children that it is unsafe to throw hard balls indoors and shows them how to roll the balls instead.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Strong teaching enables all children to make good progress from their starting points. They are confident, motivated and have fun as they learn. Toddlers use their imagination as they play. For example, they thoroughly enjoy role play in the pretend kitchen. All children develop the skills needed for their future learning.
