Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's interaction with the children. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about her role and responsibilities. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, which includes assessments, training certificates, the self-evaluation form and policies. The inspector took account of the views of parents expressed in writing.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of the procedures to follow if she has any concerns about the welfare of a child. She carries out regular risk assessments indoors and outdoors to reduce potential hazards to children. The childminder keeps and maintains relevant records for the safe management of the children. She has addressed the actions and recommendations successfully from the last inspection. This has led to improvements to the care children receive and their learning experiences. The childminder regularly evaluates her service to identify her strengths and improve the quality of her work. In addition, she encourages parents to share their views about the service to help her make decisions about how to improve.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder regularly observes children. She uses her notes to assess their abilities and plan the next steps to move them on in their learning. The childminder provides children with a variety of activities, which helps children to have fun, explore and be active. For example, young children learn that when they press a button on toys, they hear sounds, music or recorded messages. Children begin to develop an awareness of familiar places, such as the nearby river and local parks, and they are keen to learn climbing skills. The childminder helps children to develop their understanding of diversity and positive attitudes to others. For example, children look at books about other cultures, and learn about the similarities and difference between themselves and others.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has a caring relationship with the children and she is receptive to their individual needs. Children demonstrate that they feel happy and secure in the childminder's care. For example, they show an awareness of other people with whom they are not familiar and snuggle up to the childminder. She reassures children to help develop their confidence and they respond through smiling. Children learn to behave well and to keep themselves safe. Overall, the childminder supports children's good health and reduces the spread of germs to children. The childminder offers children nutritious meals that help them to develop healthy eating habits. Children enjoy daily exercises, which supports their physical development.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. Young children learn to string words together and are moving towards using whole sentences. Children benefit immensely from regular opportunities to take part in group activities where they learn to form friendships with others beyond the setting.
