She follows children's lead as they play and learn, and adapts and extends activities to challenge them appropriately. At times, activities are inspiring and innovative.  The childminder observes children at play, which helps her to assess their development and identify their strengths and interests. She plans activities that encourage children to develop new skills and build on what they already know and can do. This contributes to the good progress they make in all areas of learning.  Parents are extremely happy with the care the childminder provides. They describe her as an 'absolute professional' and commend her for her excellent communication skills.  The childminder has formed effective partnerships with other settings that children attend. She meets with them regularly to share information about children's

This helps to provide a consistent approach to supporting children's continued learning and development.  Children form strong, trusting bonds with the childminder who offers them an abundance of praise and encouragement. This helps to promote children's emotional well-being extremely well and contributes to the very high levels of confidence and self- esteem they demonstrate.  Children demonstrate an exceptional ability to meet their own self-care needs. They are extremely independent, which helps to prepare them very well for school.

She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder reflects on her practice and seeks advice from other professionals to ensure she continues to meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage. She seeks feedback from parents to check that they are happy with the care and learning she provides. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows what to do if she has a concern about a child's welfare. She regularly checks her home to ensure it continues to be safe and suitable for the care of children. The childminder is qualified and experienced. This contributes to her ability to provide educational programmes that support children to make good progress across all areas of learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder gathers information about children's achievements at home from the outset and as they continue to attend. This helps her to plan swiftly and effectively to support children's ongoing learning and development. The childminder supports children's language and communication skills well. She asks skilful questions and repeats words back to children, which helps to reinforce their speaking skills. The childminder makes learning fun and interesting for children, which helps them to engage very well in activities. They show delight as they act out parts of a familiar story. Children have plenty of opportunities to explore and investigate. For example, they enjoy mixing grass, mud and water as they play outdoors. The childminder provides children with plenty of opportunities to climb, balance and ride bikes. This helps to promote their physical development effectively.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder has very high expectations of children. She consistently reminds them of appropriate boundaries and encourages a culture of respect and understanding. Children respond extremely well and their behaviour is remarkably good. From an early age, they help each other and consider each other's needs and feelings as they play together. The childminder supports children to develop excellent listening and attention skills. For example, she prepares them very well for story times and they become engrossed as they listen to her read. The childminder promotes children's physical health and well-being to consistently high levels. They benefit from nutritious meals and plenty of fresh air and exercise. The childminder has robust hygiene procedures in place and teaches children how to keep themselves safe and healthy.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are enthusiastic, motivated and confident learners who become engaged in activities. They share, cooperate and follow simple instructions willingly, demonstrating a positive attitude to learning that helps to prepare them for school. All children make good progress and are working within the range of development expected for their age. The childminder supports children to develop key skills that help to prepare them for later, more formal learning. For example, she encourages children to observe shapes and count out the ingredients as they prepare their own lunch. This helps to promote their early mathematical skills. They practise literacy skills as they observe a range of text and print in the environment and make their own early attempts at writing.
