This provision is good
The childminder organises the environment well. She offers children a range of stimulating resources, and children happily engage in play. Children are motivated, make their own decisions and choose new toys to enhance their learning. Children learn valuable mathematical skills. The childminder makes learning about numbers enjoyable and provides children with challenges that are appropriate for their age. Children use number language in conversation and ask the childminder questions to further their knowledge of the subject. The childminder accurately assesses her training needs and improves her knowledge of how to support young children. For example, recently she learnt new strategies to support children's speech and language skills. The childminder communicates well with children and they are eager to talk to her during the day. Children are kind, caring and behave well. Older children are good role models for their

younger friends. Children listen to instructions and work together to complete tasks. Children make good progress. The childminder has a good awareness of children's individual needs. Children are confident and ready to move on to school.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not fully developed partnerships with other settings that children attend to consistently share information and provide children with greater continuity in their care and learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector watched the childminder interacting with children in all areas of the setting. The inspector talked to parents about the service the childminder offers them. The inspector spoke to the childminder about her methods of self-evaluation and improvements she has made to the setting. The inspector viewed safeguarding policies and discussed the procedures which the childminder follows to keep children safe. The inspector viewed children's learning documents and tracked the progress of a number of children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder reflects on how she can continue to improve different aspects of her practice. For instance, she identified that she could improve how she supported children to develop their early writing skills and so rearranged the working area. This had a positive impact on the opportunities for children to practise their mark-making skills. The childminder has formed positive relationships with parents. She listens to their views, and parents seek useful advice about how to support children. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder updates her safeguarding knowledge regularly in line with current local government guidance. She has a secure understanding of the correct procedures to follow to help keep children safe.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children learn to use technology that is appropriate for their stage of learning. For example, older children use technology to practise their hand-eye coordination. Younger children use technology to help them identify colours and shapes. Children respond excitedly to the range of sounds and visual effects. The childminder observes play closely and talks to children about what they are playing with. She plans activities and provides resources that children will enjoy. She encourages children to engage in role play. For instance, children pretend to shop for an afternoon picnic and pick up additional groceries to feed friendly dinosaurs. The childminder communicates with parents about the progress their children are making and how she will help them to meet learning goals.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps children to be independent and complete tasks for themselves. For instance, children wash their hands and know that it is to prevent the spread of germs. Children are relaxed and settled in the childminder's care. Children freely seek affection from her when they are tired or just need reassurance. The childminder teaches children about the world and what makes everyone unique. For example, children learn about different foods and cultures from around the world. The childminder has a good understanding of the need to work with other professionals to help children who need additional support. She refers children to specialist services when required and follows learning plans to provide continuity for children and to help them catch up.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident communicators and ask questions that are relevant to their learning. They freely talk about people close to them. Children identify numbers, colours and write some letters. Children form secure attachments with adults and enjoy exploring. They thrive on new challenges. All children achieve well from their initial starting point.
