This provision is good
The childminder fully understands her professional responsibilities. She has completed a thorough evaluation process. She has worked hard to improve her practice overall and address the weaknesses identified at her last inspection. Children enjoy spending time in the childminder's home. They show they feel secure and they develop caring and affectionate bonds with the childminder and her family. The childminder balances the differing needs of children well. She adapts her teaching to ensure younger and older children can participate in the same activities. The childminder shares information about children's care and learning with parents daily, using a variety of methods. Parents comment positively about her care. They say the childminder is caring and professional and that their children look forward to spending time with her. Children learn to persist with challenging tasks. The childminder encourages them to

keep trying and praises their efforts. Children enjoy a sense of achievement when they succeed.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not established useful partnerships with all of the other settings children attend. This means some children do not benefit from a shared approach to their learning. On occasion, the childminder does not support children's developing speech to the highest level.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the premises and observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, including the childminder's self-assessment and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder shares ideas with other childminders in addition to sourcing additional training. This helps her to continue to develop professionally and drive improvements. For example, she has exchanged ideas for developing an overview of children's learning. This will help her to monitor if some children make better progress than others. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder's home is safe and secure and risks are identified and managed when children go on outings. The childminder is able to recognise when children may be at risk of harm. She has effective child protection procedures in place. She extends her knowledge further by accessing training. For example, she has attended a course to enable her to recognise when children and families may be developing extremist views or behaviours.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children make good progress in their learning. The childminder finds out what children can already do when they enrol and plans appropriate activities to challenge them further. She makes regular assessments of their development, in order to identify what they need to learn next. The environment she provides is rich in print and colourful posters are displayed on the walls. The childminder encourages children's matching skills and asks them to find corresponding pictures to the toy animals they play with. She helps children to count how many of the same animal they can find and children shout out in delight when they find one more. Children are beginning to learn about the similarities and differences between people. The childminder plans activities to help children understand a variety of cultural celebrations. For example, children enjoy tasting noodles for Chinese New Year and pancakes for Shrove Tuesday.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has realistic age-appropriate expectations of children's behaviour. She reinforces kindness and gentleness with praise and reminds older children to try and share toys with babies. Children respond well to her approach and behave well. The childminder is particularly skilled in encouraging children to become independent. Children try hard to dress themselves and put on their own shoes. They are beginning to adopt good hygiene habits, for example, they try to blow their own nose and wipe their own hands. Children's good health is effectively promoted. Children eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. They enjoy walks and visits to a soft-play area to help them develop a love of physical activity. When children have minor bumps, they are quickly reassured and soothed by a cuddle from the childminder.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are lively and full of fun, they are learning to cooperate and take turns. Children are keen to explore and are developing the ability to persist with challenging tasks. They are well prepared for their eventual move to school.
