This provision is good
The childminder has a good knowledge of children's individual interests and needs. She uses this well to plan a range of appropriate activities. This helps to support children's good progress in their learning and development. The childminder offers high levels of praise and encouragement consistently to children, which help to support their confidence and self-esteem. Children have formed secure attachments with the childminder and they readily go to her for cuddles and reassurance. The childminder has high expectations of behaviour. She gives clear explanations of why certain behaviours are not appropriate and uses a range of strategies to promote positive behaviour. This helps to develop children's understanding and supports them to share and resolve conflicts. Partnerships with parents are positive and they are complimentary about the care and teaching the childminder provides. She keeps parents informed of what their child is

learning through regular discussions and encourages them to share learning that has happened at home.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written and verbal feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of how to assess risks in the environment. She supports children to understand how to keep themselves safe. For example, children help to tidy up the toys when they have finished playing. The childminder has a good knowledge of child protection issues and knows the correct procedure to follow should she have concerns about a child's welfare. She shows that she has a desire to improve the service that she provides. The childminder reflects well upon her strengths and weaknesses and undertakes research and training to improve outcomes for children. She receives support from the local authority quality adviser and carries out peer reviews with other childminders. Systems to monitor children's development are effective and support the childminder in identifying any gaps in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans activities which focus on individual children's needs and help them to make progress on what they need to learn next. Children enjoy joining in with familiar nursery rhymes and the childminder provides a range of props to help motivate and encourage them. The childminder repeats what children say to help younger children hear the correct pronunciation and support their confidence when talking. The childminder supports children's reading skills. She encourages children to blend sounds together to read simple words and to recognise more difficult words. She supports children to develop small-muscle skills in preparation for writing. Children enjoy manipulating dough and using a range of tools and cutters. This helps them to develop key skills in readiness for school.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy working together to build models with nuts, bolts and a variety of tools. They learn to share resources and wait their turn. Through effective encouragement, children are obtaining some of the key skills, attitudes and dispositions they need to be ready for school. The childminder provides a welcoming environment with a good range of toys and resources that is presented at children's height. This helps to give children freedom to make choices about their own play. They also work together to establish a visual timeline for the day. This helps to motivate and focus children on to the next activity. Children have opportunities to be active and regularly go to parks, soft-play centres and playgroups. This helps to support their physical development and well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are happy and have settled well. They enjoy developing their independence skills. For example, they prepare their own snack by using age-appropriate cutlery to spread cheese on crackers. Through their play they learn about colours, counting and shapes, which help to support their mathematical awareness. Children enjoy drawing and making marks on dry wipe boards. They enjoy receiving stickers for trying hard and they make good progress during their time with the childminder.
