For example, she has a secure knowledge of the importance of having a written progress check for children aged between two and three years. The childminder knows to involve parents in the assessment. Children share warm and affectionate relationships with the childminder and are very happy and settled. Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and children during the inspection. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the qualifications held by the childminder. She checked evidence of the suitability of all those living on the premises. The inspector took account of the written comments of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibility to protect children's welfare. She undertakes good risk assessments to ensure children are safe in her care and completes regular training keeping her safeguarding practices and knowledge up to date. The childminder seeks the views of parents and children regularly. She takes on board their views in order to improve the outcomes for children. This also helps her to reflect on her practice and make changes that impact positively on children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes and assesses children's development effectively. She has a good understanding about how children learn through play and exploration. Her teaching is good as she enthusiastically engages with children. This motivates them to learn as they play. The childminder identifies gaps in their learning and plans activities to help children make better progress in these areas. For example, she encourages children to play colour matching games to develop their colour recognition. Children become quickly absorbed in their play. They repeat the activity and name and match the colours confidently. The childminder encourages children to listen, think and communicate well. She asks them to describe what they are doing when the children pretend to feed, dress and undress the dolls. The childminder offers children lots of opportunities to make choices in what they do. She skilfully engages with children in their chosen activities to extend their skills

further. For example, children count the stairs in dolls' house. The childminder encourages them to count numbers as high as they can in order to extend some aspects of their mathematical skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's healthy lifestyles effectively. They spend time in the back garden enjoying the fresh air while they exercise. The childminder provides nutritious snacks. She talks to children about healthy foods and the benefits these have, such as milk and cheese to make their bones stronger. Children's self-esteem is good. The childminder praises children on their good behaviour. She helps them learn to take turns and share toys. The childminder develops children's understanding of diversity through a range of activities that teaches them about people in the wider world. The childminder takes children to a variety of local groups in the community. This is one of the ways she ensures that they have the opportunity to interact with other children of their age.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop good skills for their future and are well prepared to move on to school. They make marks on various surfaces and enjoy looking at books to help develop their literacy skills. Children confidently explore their surroundings and show good levels of independence as they make choices about their play. They tackle challenges eagerly, such as when trying to put a nappy on a doll. Children's attitude to learning is very positive.
