This provision is good
Children are happy and form close bonds with the childminder. They regularly enjoy cuddles and settle well. The childminder supports their emotional security well and children are motivated to learn. The childminder encourages children to be kind and use good manners, such as to say 'please' and 'thank you'. She remains calm when children have minor outbursts, such as when they accidently knock their artwork on the floor, and helps them to compose themselves. Children behave well. Children develop good mathematical skills. The childminder uses everyday play well to help them. For example, children learn about 'long' and 'short', and the childminder challenges older children effectively to add quantities. Self-evaluation is effective. The childminder has successfully made improvements to support positive outcomes. This has helped her to support children more to develop competent language skills, such as when they explore materials. The childminder uses

a wide range of words to describe the textures they feel, which extends children's vocabulary successfully.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide children with opportunities to learn that print has different meanings, to help develop their early reading and writing skills further. There are few opportunities for children to learn more about the similarities and differences between themselves and other people.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children playing with the childminder, with others and independently. The inspector toured parts of the childminder's home used for childminding. The inspector spoke to the childminder at convenient times and conducted a joint observation of children with her. The inspector considered parents' views by reading their testimonials. The inspector sampled a range of documents, including suitability checks, policies, and children's development information.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is clear about how to identify and report any concerns she has about children's safety and welfare. The childminder successfully keeps her knowledge and skills up to date, which helps her to enhance her teaching skills and children's experiences. For example, recent training about outdoor play has increased her understanding of how to support children's imaginations as they play with natural resources. The childminder monitors children's progress well. She frequently summarises their achievements and, in discussion with other settings children attend, she plans additional activities to close any gaps in their learning promptly.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder interacts with children effectively and uses their interests well to help them learn and progress, such as counting when being creative. She successfully identifies children's learning needs and interests and uses this information well to help set ongoing plans; for example, to provide more opportunities for younger children to handle a variety of textures and materials. Partnerships with parents are secure. The childminder exchanges good information regularly and works well with parents to support children's progress and learning, such as developing their language skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a positive role model for children. She listens to children and supports their needs sensitively. For example, she recognises when children are tired or hungry and addresses their needs promptly. The childminder provides children with many opportunities to develop good social skills. Together, they attend playgroups and enjoy outings with other childminders and children. Children learn to be sociable and conduct themselves well in new environments. Children develop a good understanding of healthy lifestyles. The childminder works well with parents to provide healthy snacks and lunches.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress across all areas of learning. They enjoy being creative and confidently explore a range of textures using their senses. Children develop a secure understanding of mathematics. For example, they count buttons and older children complete simple calculations. Children develop their physical skills well. They enjoy outings to parks, where they are more energetic, as well as other activities to help develop their smaller muscles, such as using crayons. Children learn to be curious and use their imaginations well. For example, they dress up to pretend they are princesses and build on their interests even further, such as by pretending to apply make-up. Children develop the necessary skills that help to prepare them well for their next stages of development and eventual move to school.
