This provision is good
The childminder is kind, caring and supportive. Young children go to her for reassurance and a cuddle when they need it. The childminder creates a welcoming, interesting and attractive environment. Children show a strong sense of security and belonging in the home. The childminder gets to know children's interests and stages of development well. She extends their learning and helps them make good progress in relation to their starting points. The childminder is skilled at helping children develop a good understanding of how to stay healthy. For instance, she engages them in discussion about how to look after their teeth. The childminder works effectively with the co-childminder to evaluate, monitor and review their practice and children's learning consistently. For example, at the end of the day they discuss how children have responded to activities and how they can build further on their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently make the most of opportunities to encourage children to play and explore independently. Some planned activities are not organised in the most effective way to help fully engage very young children.
p.1

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's activities indoors. The inspector sampled children's learning records and other relevant documentation. The inspector spoke with the childminder during the inspection about children's learning and progress, and to evaluate an activity. The inspector looked at the childminder's self-evaluation form. The inspector took account of the views of parents from written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding procedures. She has a good awareness of how to protect children, for instance, from extreme views and harm. She carefully assesses and minimises risks in the home. Children are well supervised and stay safe. The childminder continues to improve her knowledge and skills. For example, she recently attended training that helped increase her skills in listening to children. She builds within children a strong awareness that their views and ideas are listened to and valued. The childminder forms strong partnerships with parents that contribute to children's well-being and consistency of care. She exchanges relevant information with another childminder who shares the care and education of children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes and assesses children and successfully identifies learning priorities. Overall, she provides challenging activities that meet all children's learning needs. Children join in a wide variety of learning experiences, including activities where children express their creativity. For instance, they enjoy exploring shaving foam and drawing on glass. The childminder builds on children's strong language skills. For example, they talk together about pictures on cards. The childminder extends children's counting skills and awareness of colours effectively.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children form strong emotional bonds with the childminder. She meets their emotional needs well and they are happy and content. Children are kind and show care for others. They play well with their friends and share resources. At the inspection, they enjoyed telling stories to their friends and said, 'We're best friends.' The childminder takes overall responsibility for providing children with healthy home-cooked meals. Children enjoy a healthy diet and develop a strong understanding of the importance of good personal hygiene. They develop a good understanding of safety. For example, the childminder gently reminds children what might happen if they climb on a chair.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop well in the skills they need to prepare them for school. They are confident around adults and readily ask for help when they need it. Children concentrate well at chosen activities. They are independent and take on responsibilities, such as tidying up after group activities. They are confident talkers and share their thoughts and ideas with others. Children have good social skills and form strong friendships.
