This provision is good
The childminder monitors all children's development well, including those who have special educational needs. She uses precise assessments of children's progress to identify gaps and works closely with parents to address any potential delays promptly. Children make good progress towards their next stages of learning, in readiness for starting school. The childminder supports children's communication and language development effectively. For example, she models the correct pronunciation of words, narrates children's play and introduces new words. Children are confident communicators. For instance, young children initiate conversations and ask questions. Children have high self-esteem and confidence. The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment. She respects children's views and encourages children to be independent in their choices. For instance, she asks children what toys they would like

to play with and which activities they would like to do that day. The childminder develops her skills well to support positive outcomes for children. For example, she uses training, online research and ideas from other professionals.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasions, the childminder misses opportunities to support children's understanding of numbers and counting further. The childminder does not help children to identify risks for themselves, to develop their understanding of how to keep themselves safe.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's safeguarding policy and her suitability checks to work with children. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector viewed the childminder's planning, observation and assessment documents. The inspector toured the areas of the setting used for childminding.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the signs that may indicate a child may be at risk and has a good understanding of the procedures to follow to protect them from harm. The childminder actively improves her practice to make changes that benefit the children. For example, she recently created an outdoor role-play area, which has successfully improved the older children's social and creative skills. The childminder continuously and effectively looks for ways to improve the quality of her teaching. For example, research into ways to encourage reluctant boys to learn to write has led her to provide exciting activities that engage them well, such as making marks in the sand and using pebbles to make letters when at the beach. The childminder has engaged parents well in this, and boys are now forming recognisable letters to write their names.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how to promote children's learning and development. She uses her regular observations and assessments of children to plan effectively. For example, using children's love of books and their next step to develop confidence around others, the childminder plans regular visits to the library, where children learn to interact when borrowing a book. The childminder works well with other settings children attend. Children benefit from the consistent approach that meets their needs well. The childminder supports children's learning outdoors well. For example, they learn how to care for plants and pay for items on their trips to the local garden centre.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children receive good support to be kind and polite. The childminder is a good role model for children. She teaches children to say 'please' and 'thank you', helping them to gain good manners and respect for others. The childminder creates a safe environment where children play and explore confidently. For example, she conducts daily checks on her home and monitors accidents to remove potential risks. Children benefit from regular activities and outings that develop their physical skills and support their good health. For instance, toddlers build their balance and coordination well at local parks and woodlands. Children learn about different cultures through celebrating special festivals, which help them learn to understand and respect different views and backgrounds.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children develop the skills that prepare them well for their next steps in learning. For example, older children learn to recognise the letters and sounds in their names to support their early reading and writing skills, and young children develop a love of books. Young children are motivated learners and enjoy leading their own play. For example, they select resources independently and concentrate on activities for significant periods.
