instructions and cooperate well during their play.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Sometimes, the childminder does not make full use of the outdoor area to enhance learning opportunities for children, particularly for those who prefer to learn outdoors. Occasionally, the childminder does not exchange information fully with other early years settings to support children's continuity in learning even further.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this had on children's learning and development. The inspector viewed all areas of the premises used for childminding. The inspector viewed a range of documentation, including the childminder's first-aid qualification and public liability insurance certificate. The inspector spoke to children. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her child protection responsibilities. She knows how to recognise the signs and symptoms that may alert her to any welfare concerns and how to report these to appropriate agencies. The childminder seeks opportunities to enhance the quality of her provision. For example, she meets up with other childminders to exchange ideas and she reads relevant literature. She regularly evaluates her practice to assess what works well and where she needs to improve. The childminder is well organised and maintains the required documentation, which she uses successfully to underpin her practice. She shares her policies and procedures with the parents. Children are cared for in a safe and secure environment. For instance, the childminder undertakes rigorous risk assessments and supervises children at all times.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder engages with children well, such as to help extend their vocabulary and mathematical skills. For example, she counts with children as they stack blocks, to support their understanding of numbers and counting. Children enjoy being imaginative. For example, they explore animal figures and pair these up, while learning new words such as 'bigger' and 'smaller'. Children's literacy skills are developing well. For instance, they enjoy the childminder reading to them and using rhyming words. The childminder skilfully plans a good range of activities and experiences for the children to understand the world. For example, children enjoy learning about the North Pole, including how the ice melts.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is consistent in her approach to managing children's behaviour. For example, she distracts them from unwanted behaviour by offering alternatives. Children receive lots of praise, which helps motivate them to have a positive attitude to learning. They learn to manage their own personal needs and take on responsibilities happily, such as helping to tidy up. They develop good physical skills. For example, they enjoy jumping and dancing to music and movements. The childminder teaches children to adopt good hygiene practices. For instance, she teaches them to wash their hands before they eat. The children have good opportunities to learn about the community. For example, they celebrate special events with other childminders and their children.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from when they start and show they are ready for moving on to nursery or school. They develop effective early writing skills and are confident to socialise with others and build friendships, such as through attending local groups.
