Children practise their early literacy skills as they enjoy listening and contributing to stories, pointing to what they can see on each page. The childminder repeats new words and uses skilful questioning to promote children's good communication and language skills. Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a stimulating and welcoming learning environment. She is a positive role model and offers children much encouragement and praise. Children are happy, settled and confident in her home. They can make independent choices from a range of high-quality resources and take the lead in their own play. Children are developing the skills necessary for self-care, including feeding themselves and taking off their shoes and coats. Children follow appropriate hygiene routines, including washing their hands before eating and, if necessary, after play activities. They enjoy healthy snacks and nutritious home-cooked meals. There are plenty of exciting opportunities for children to benefit from exercise and fresh air, for example at local parks, beaches and woodland.

Outcomes for children are good
All children are well prepared for their future learning and the eventual move on to nursery and school. They listen carefully and cooperate well. Children are becoming confident communicators who can clearly make their needs known. There are many opportunities for them to mix with other children of varying ages and to form friendships. Children are making at least the expected progress typical for their age.
