This provision is good
The childminder knows children well and helps them to make good progress in their learning and development. She works closely with parents, carers and other settings that children attend to encourage consistency in children's experiences and care. The childminder models play effectively alongside children and she teaches them new skills to help them build on previous learning. Children form secure relationships with the childminder and develop good levels of confidence and independence. The childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding procedures and supervises children closely to help keep them safe. The childminder evaluates her practice comprehensively to maintain a high quality and consistent service for children and their families.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not enable children to explore their play ideas and develop their imaginations fully before moving on to the next learning experience. Sometimes, the childminder does not consistently encourage children to respond fully during discussions to express their thoughts and ideas.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors. The inspector and the childminder observed and discussed an activity together. The inspector talked to the childminder about aspects of her practice at appropriate points throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's assessment records, the childminder's self-evaluation form, evidence of her training and written comments from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder monitors her practice thoughtfully and encourages feedback from parents and children to gain their views. She has improved practice since the last inspection, for example, by developing opportunities for children to learn about healthy food. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge and understanding up to date successfully, for example, by attending relevant training. She knows what to do and who to contact if she has concerns about a child's welfare and in the event of an accident or incident.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a calm and inviting play environment that encourages children to be motivated in their learning experiences. She assesses children's progress routinely to identify their capabilities and to plan for their next steps in learning effectively. The childminder provides challenging activities to help children develop a wide range of skills. For example, she helps children to explore the properties of shapes and to categorise colours as they enjoy playing with modelling dough. The childminder speaks to children clearly and introduces a wide range of vocabulary to help them make good progress in their language development. She exchanges information with parents on a regular basis to keep them well informed about their children's progress and time with her.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children to do things for themselves and offers support where needed to make sure challenges are achievable. For example, she helps children to develop cooperation and independence as they enjoy completing small tasks during nappy changes. The childminder teaches children to be respectful and to develop a positive approach to people who are different from themselves. She provides clear guidance to parents to help them support their children's learning and development at home. For example, she makes suggestions to help children manage their feelings and behaviour through a consistent approach.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well prepared for their next stages in learning and for their future school lives. They engage well in learning experiences and enjoy having conversations with the childminder about what they are doing. Children develop good control in using a range of tools and materials, and they enjoy exploring different media and textures. They cooperate well with the childminder as they follow instructions, and they are familiar with daily routines. Children develop an enjoyment of reading, for example, as they listen intently to the childminder while sharing stories.
